View Full Version : Cool BOATS: A hole in the water?

I have been a boater (sail) my entire adult life, until recently. During that time I learned…and prescribed to the adage “a boat is a hole in the water that you throw money into”.

Now that that segment of my life has passed and I have decided to embark upon RC boats as a hobby, I am noticing many similarities between the two endeavors.

To quote another adage…is this “da-ja-vue all over again”?

When you says boater do you mean full scale? My Coast Guard instructor for the sailing class I enrolled in said "sailing is like standing in a cold shower ripping up $50 dollars bills."

Yes...I was a "single handed" sailor with real sailboats. 35-40' range...and your sailing instructor is showing his age. In the twenty first century, it's like standing in a cold shower ripping up $100.00 bills.

1:1 or scale, all boats are 'real' and they are all 'toys'! (except work boats, they are tools) :) and yes they are holes in the water to throw money into, just at a different scales! :D

DanL,
Hmm, the trick is to keep the amount of money you throw into that hole within reason. How do you do that? Good question! And I have the answer! If you 'play' where people can see you (and the boat), there's always the possibility (about the same percentage as winning the lottery) of fishing a few dollars out of that hole. Depends a lot on your attitude and conscience. And who'z doing the looking...
