The patrol boats remind me of one of the first PT boat deployments- Lt Bulkeley's RON 3 to the Philippines aboard the tanker SS Guadalupe:

Damage was from a small boatload of terrorists in Aden harbor, Yemen, and about 500 lbs of explosive formed as a shaped charge. At least the terrorists evaporated.

Hmmmm...just how old are you Pat LOL
Re the Yemen attack..yes I remeber that one. Fortunately the damage was above the water line, or many more lives would have been lost.

Actually, the hole was to both sides of the w'line... I'm not sure, she may have settled on a shallow bottom? At the very least, water tight doors, heroic fire fighting, and pumps were crucial I'm sure.

The Cole was carried by the MV Blue Marlin across the Atlantic into the Gulf of Mexico to the Ingalls Shipbuilding yard at Pascagoula, MS, where she was constructed. There the people who originally built her repaired her.The Cole is now back in service with the U S Navy.

The USS America, one of the last non-nuclear USS carriers, was recently sunk during a series of tests designed to see how modern US aircraft carries would hold up against such attacks. The result are highly classified but check out this thread.
