I’m looking for a fun RC boat for about $50-$75 FTR. I need four on different frequencies for the kids to race at the lake. Anybody have any thoughts?

The Zig Zag 2 Racer (http://www.hobbyzone.com/rc_boats_hobbyzone_zig_zag_racer_2.htm) is probably the best boat for what you want. Three different hull colors, available on all 6 frequencies in the 27 MHz band. MSRP is $79.99, you might be able to find them for as cheap as $70. The original Zig Zag racer was discontinued, but you might find some of them around for $60.

Don't forget to add the cost of extra batteries. At least one per boat. The batteries are a 45min charge cycle. So after the first run, you can start recharging a battery, and run the second battery. After 2 runs, the motor will probably want a break anyway, So a 20 minute reprive for the boat, while batteries are charging would be a good thing.

What is the difference between the original ZZ and the ZZ-2?
I saw both at a LHS and the salesperson did not know.

The original Zig Zag came with a yellow or green body and had a 300 foot radio range. The Zig Zag 2 comes with a red, blue, or yellow body, 500 foot radio range, and the hull was revised for better manueverability.

Another option is the Reef Racer (http://www.towerhobbies.com/products/hobbico/hcab14.html); it's about the same size and cost of the Zig Zag racer. The Zig Zag Racer comes with three buoys & anchors, and an attachable bumper (like a bulldozer blade) so you can retrieve tre buoys or play water polo. The Reef Racer comes in 6 colors and on 6 different radio frequencies.
IMO the Zig Zag Racer is a better buy; the retail prices are similar, but the Zig Zag includes the buoys and the bumper.
Anybody know where to get the best price? You could check the local hobby shops; the owner might give you a price break if you but 4 at once. You could do an internet search for "Zig Zag Racer". The HobbyTown USA near me is selling them for $79.99; as are most other retailers.

UMI, Just saw this the other day. Hobby Warehouse Inc. is offering a free 2nd. battery with the Zig Zag II. http://store.yahoo.com/hobby-warehouse/hozipzagra2w.html

Hi guys. I'm new to r/c boats and just bought a reef racer to start with and should have it next week. Are these a decent boat, are there any problems to be aware of? Can they be hopped up (faster motor)? How fast are they in stock form? Thanks in advance.
