Hi, I finally managed to finish my AG (not the best covering job, but...)
According to the plans I should place the CG at the rear end of the wing rod to start with.
Is this conservative enough or should I move it even more forward?
Neither a stall or a nose dive sound very appealing to me.
Any inputs are appreciated.

O boy - this brings back many fond memories! Yours looks great.

She is pretty forgiving on CG as I recall (been 20+ years!) so start with the recommended and you will be fine.

Good luck!

HEY! How did you sneek into my basement and steal my Aquila?

I built mine in '84/'85.

Yours looks great, I love the colors.

Actually I'm working in a second set of wings (that might end up being a second AG  ).
Not very happy with my job, (first scratch build after 20+ years and even then I only built a couple of kits  ).
I had really bad time stretching the joints of the different color monokote on the stab due to not being glued to any wood.
Do you have any tricks for that?
I find that when you try to strech it, it comes appart so the stab work kinda sucks!
That is what makes me think about a 2nd AG. I have the wings already and for sure need a better stab without wrinkles, so that basically needs only a fuse. He!

Ok, now this is just down right scary. I had to recover my AG before a trip to South Dakota this May and I used the same clear blue. (Mine does have a little yellow though) Heres a pic of all the planes I took with me, the AG is in there somewhere. (Weasel, Osiris, Omie, Zagi, Talon, Patton P51, Thermic, Aquila Grande, Oly II)

My tail had the same problem. If I were to do it over I would put a rib where ever a color change is. As you can see I made it all white this time.

Lift,

Well if you really want it to sound scary, I've been looking yesterday for pin strip tape to finish up all the seams and I was looking for a yellow one!!!

Is your fuse fg or build up?

FG, is yours built-up? I first broke it last year, after 18 years of no big mishaps (not a lot of flights though). My vertical speed was a little much and it bottomed out trying to land on a slope. It cracked just behind the wing. The other was just a couple weeks ago, sloping again I dorked it and the tail cracked again just behind the first repair.

You tend to get attached to things you have for some time. I'm not looking forward to the day I pile it in. I hope you enjoy yours, it really does look great.

No, mine is FG too (the Airtronics original) that got broken midway between the back of the wing and the tail.
I have a set of Aquila plans with a built up fuse but there are not very explanatory because there are copies that someone drew and they don't have any details.
That is the reason I asked if yours was built up. According to the plans I have it looks like the sides are 1/8 plywood but I can't tell for sure. That is what is holing me off from building the fuse.
I'm kinda of busy now anyway so hopefully this one will last until I can finish up the Aqila XL I'm working on too.
