Kyosho Lazer ZX-R - need alternate solution to wave washers on spur gear shaft

Hi all. I raced a bit back in the late 80's, then packed up my Optima
Mid in a box where it moved from garage to garage for years. Recently
unpacked it along with a Kyosho Lazer ZX-R I picked up off of ebay so
my son and I can mess around on an upcoming camping trip.

Naturally, they need some work, and they are coming along nicely. But I
have one problem I haven't been able to engineer a solution for as of
yet:

The instructions for the ZX-R show the assembly holding the spur gear
onto the spur gear shaft with 4 wave washers, a limiter collar, and an
M3 nut. The problem is, when I got the car, the nut, washers, and
collar were not there.

metal plate
fiberglass? insert (thin red insert which interfaces with the spur gear
and presumeably keeps metal plate from wearing the gear)
spur gear
fiberglass? insert (thin red insert which interfaces with the spur gear

beveled metal plate
4 wave washers (missing)
limiter collar (missing)
M3 nut (missing, but easy to find)

I've been having a heckuva time trying to find wave washers, let alone
the limiter collar to hold them in place.

Does anyone have a good idea as to what I can do to make this work (or
where to find the necessary parts)? Any help or suggestions are
appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the ZX-R, but assuming that a) this is a slipper
clutch arrangement, and b) the metal plates either side of the spur are
keyed to the layshaft, then you could try the slipper spring from
another car (say a Losi or Associated), or perhaps the diff spring from
a Yokomo BC (although that may be slightly too small to fit over a 3mm
thread, if that's where it would sit).

Another possibility might be the disc springs from a TTech Predator
slipper clutch - they're a bit bigger internally, I'd guess Ø5-7 mm and
are used as a stack of three in that application.

Do you have a hobby shop that stocks parts anywhere near you? I am
amazed at what I find to fit some of my vehicles. I broke a bearing
carrier on my Traxxas 4-TEC (a street car) and the shop where I was
racing did not have any. Looking around I found the rear carriers off
some Losi nitro truck just happened to fit with a little shaving and
got me running in time for the next race! I would take the car to a
Hobby Shop if you can and just see what fits.

You can also check out hardware stores. Near me I have gotten odd
parts from Ace, Home Depot and Lowes to get RC stuff fixed. If you
can't get a spacer can you get a metal tube and cut it to length?
