Hi,
I just bought a Esky 4channel FP Heli and trying do some pratcie in FMS first. I installed FMS and PPJoy. I was able to added Virtual Joystick and installed drivers successfully. But when i launched PPJoycom, selected Zhen Hua 5 byte protocol and it showed "Waiting for stream init.." and then I turned on TX. The PPJoycom changed the message to "invalid sync byte 120"??? I tried to launch FMS but not able to use the TX to control anything. Keyboard worked ok. Anyone knows what wrong with that?
Thanks.

have you tried the other protocols? I think the "zhen hua" is specific to Walkera controllers (but I wouldn't put my money on it).

I tried different protocl but no luck!
Anyone seem this problem before? The seller told me to use Zhen Hua 5 for Esky TX. I really want to try SIM first before i touch the heli.
Thanks.

Have you tried in another machine running window 98 or something?

I don't think that there were transmitters sold under ESky brand, which implement Zhen Hua protocol. The only TX with this protocol I've seen lately was a 4-ch Walkera crap. But even Walkera is abandoning this protocol in favour of sending the regular PPM signal to the trainer plug -- my own observations as well correspondence with a major Walkera distributor support this.
Your 4-ch ESky should be able to work with a "regulr" TX-to-PC interface as long as you wire the mini-DIN plug correctly. The wiring is different from the one used by Walkera. ESky's PPM signal is at the upper-right and ground at the lower left pin (as seen from the soldering side when the rectangular key is at 12 o'clock).
ESky "Channels Six" CCPM transmitter (which is the same as E-flite Blade CP transmitter) is harder to use with a simple interface--these transmitters have their channels already mixed in the PPM signal in the trainer plug. The only way to use these TXs is to "un-mix" on-the-fly, like it's done in CCPM interface sold by www.milehighwings.com

I tried 3 different Windows XP machines but gave me exact same error.

The heli comes with SIM cable and it is a Serial port to PC and other end to TX directly. There is only 1 port from the back of the TX. But i can tell the TX is talking to PPJoyCom because as soon as i connected and turnd on the TX. The PPJoyCom will change the message from "Ready to write stream or something " to "Invalid sync byte 120" and keep blinking. I guess may be some setup i need to change in FMS or PPJOY?
Anyone with their setup to Esky and FMS successfully? Can i see the setup setting?
Thanks.

I could never get the ESky Tx to work with the sim cable. I used PICJoy and PPJoy, downloaded drivers, tried different versions of FMS, tested the continuity of the sim cable, everything. Nothing worked. (Actually, I never tested the outputs on the TX, but I've since sold the ESky...oh well)
If you can afford to do it, and you like JR (I know some people are partial to Futaba and don't know if you are one of them), go on ebay, look up Tom's RC, and see which controllers he has for auction. He sells controllers with with USB sim cords and the driver disk (which includes FMS). You might be able to pick up a Tx with sim cord in an auction.
I realize I am giving advice that you did not request, but I spent too much time searching for how to get the ESky Tx to work and could not solve the problem.
I think your Tx is supposed to be turned off when using the sim cord, not on.
Also, I read somewhere, PPJoy doesn't work with XP. On the PPJoy site the developer says it does work with XP, but again, I racked my brain trying to get it to work and I couldn't.
/edit: I'd take bluesky123's advice and go to milehighwings. But if I were you, I'd get the USB sim cable and not the serial sim cable.

The serial cable with serial PIC interface should work well as well. I built one for my colleage. He practice FSM now. He has a Futaba TX which could use the trainner port. Document to build one serial PIC interface is available in the FMS directory after installing FMS. I ported the one of the FSM code to 12F629, works great. If the esky has PPM signal then any PIC interface or USB interface should work very well.

Why spend money on another transmitter if this 4ch ESky can work with all the simulators perfectly well?
Just search for something like "USB interface for ESky" in Google and you'll find places selling interfaces for ESky.

Hi guys,
It is working now. The reason was i picked the wrong protocol (The seller told me used Zhan Hua 5). I changed it back to default "FMS 9600 Generic" and selected Joystick from control menu in FMS. Make some calibration and all worked fine now. This URL was very helpful in using FMS.

Awesome work. I'm glad to see it does, in fact, work. I thought it was a lost cause.
