Directions to the flying field can be found on our website. The flying field is a working sod farm that is located approximately 5.2 miles west of Edgerton, KS at the intersection of Road 2100 and Highway 56. For those of you with GPS: N38 46.067 W95 06.732.

Accomodations:
Within a 15 mile radius the closest accommodations are local motels in Baldwin City, which is approximately 3 miles west on Highway 56. There is a Super 8 located in Gardner, 12.5 miles east of the flying field on Highway 56. There are a number of popular Motels in Lawrence, KS (Home to Kansas University), which is 13 miles west of the flying field on Highway 56. See listing at the bottom.

What to Expect:
We will have five rounds of competition for each of the three classes on Saturday. Launches will be by flight group and will be simultaneous at the end of a short count down (maximum of 10 contestants per flight group). Motor runs are unlimited but are subtracted from the total round time. There will be 10 minutes between flight groups, if you are flying in more than 0ne class you will be quite busy, placing batteries on charge while you fly in the next flight group. After two rounds we will break for lunch (one hour if we can stay on schedule), with three rounds in the afternoon. Fun flying in the evening if you haven’t had your fill by days end.

Sunday will be a Flyoff for the top 5 finishers in each class. Round times will be increased to 15 minutes (weather and scheduling permitting). We should complete flying around noon with a short awards ceremony, so you will have adequate travel time home.

It's just about here and most of the preparations are being finalized. The spreadsheet appears to have most of the major flaws out of it, the batteries are being charged, the landing lines are almost complete. Now, all I have to do is repair the damage from the last night.

What a gorgeous night, a big red sunset followed within minutes by a beautiful moonrise in the east. Gotta have more of these.

Thanks to all who helped put it on, hope to see you all Saturday at Edgerton.

Rex,

What is the landing/entry fee? Will there be lunch available (included or extra?) on Saturday at the field?

Any plans for dinner Sat night - either at the field or at a local eatery?

Rob,

The entry fee is $20, lunch is included on Saturday at the field. (We will be grilling something for sure). We hope to have Participation Prizes as well. No set plans for Sat. night, although there would be a number of places to go, maybe we can get something going.

What channel will you be on?

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

If what you're cooking up is as good as the Longest Day Fly, I am definitely looking forward to lunch. Thanks for the support. The weather is looking good, winds are forecast to be about 10 out of the South, a good direction for the field.

Let's burn up some electrons.

Is anybody going to fly tomorrow? I didnt think to ask before I left. I was going to bring out my Organic so your friend from up north could see my set-up.

Rex, Jim, Lee and all the other KCSE members - Thanks for a great time flying yesterday! The event was small, but it was allot of fun and we would definitely return for another event if you are so inclined. I am sure that Larry will be in touch with the SWIFT schedule, so we hope to see you guys up here in mid July (7/16) for the midyear contest! Rob.

p.s. Glenda and Cole also enjoyed themselves - thanks for the hospitality!

Is that going to be a F5J or TD contest on 7/16?

Right now it is on the schedule as T/D but there was some discussion at dinner last night in KC that we may do both. Fly T/D and F5J - there is a SWIFT meeting 7/7 and I would think that we would know after that for certain.

Rob,

Glad you were all able to make it down to KC. It was a small contest but I think it will continue to grow. Judi is considering Albuquerque again this year, it's in October, so all the practice we can get in will be a big help. I will even try to get my "Elliptron" (Red Plane) back together again, possibly in time for Omaha if you are going to add F5J to the schedule.

We definitely enjoyed dinner after the contest and will hope to do it again. Keep us posted on your schedule.
