Can anyone recommend the cheapest fast remote control car for my dogs
to chase around the yard which has 4" grass?

Thanks

My E Maxx does a fine job!
Stick with an electric one, the nitro ones are too loud
and can burn the dog's mouth, they will catch it eventually.

Check out the Traxxas Stampede. It has good ground clearance and is
cheap like $160 RTR w/esp ---see below

Something for less than $100 ?

Anyone know how fast this gyro max atv will go? I like that it will
flip itself back upright.

You get what you pay for. I doubt that thing would even move in 4" grass
due to it's extremely limited ground clearance and wimpy motor. The other
folks in here have already made some great suggestions like the Traxxas
Stampede or E-Maxx. These trucks both have great ground clearance and
powerful motors to get em' moving in tall grass.

Another option would be the Kyosho Twin Force, which is a bit bigger but
more powerful with twin motors and 14.4V power supplies.

Simply put, you ain't gunna get something for under $200 <new> that will run
fast enough in tall grass to outrun a dog of any sort.

just FYI, doc-- Emaxx has twin motors and 14.4 supply voltage. It also
isn't subject to the crap plastic uses ;)

Another vote for Emaxx here-- love mine.

Is this the E-maxx for $159 ? Seems like a great deal.

Oh, sorry, I see the Emaxx now at $320 + $30 shipping. I'm guessing
if these flip over they won't right themselves. Is that correct ?

But the E-maxx isnt cheap$
The Stampede is half the price close to the same top-speed just wont
have the guts of the emaxx.
Uh wait why am I even bothering with this I dont care much for traxxas
stuff to begin with.
Must be the vicodin and muscle relaxers Im on for my bach-ache.

No, that's the Stampede. 2WD, much less ground clearance and single
motor/7.2V power supply. Just as fast as others have stated as E-MAXX but
not in tall grass! Tall grass creates massive drag unless the majority of
the chassis is above the grass.

10% can make all the difference.

Especially when he's running in 4" grass.

I have a tracked vehicle I paid $50 for that works great in grass. The
light weight and rubber treads float it over the top of the grass. 1"
or 5" tall it runs about the same. Won't outrun a medium sized dog
that wanted to get it though. If the dog just wants to chase it and
not actually get the thing it would work on grass fine. It called
"Knight Trax" and is a toy, not a real RC. I got it at KB Toys.

In thick grass my E-Maxx and Twin Force have been the only things heavy
enough to get through well. The other vehicles, regardless of
clearance, do not have the weight to flatten the blades, instead it
gets under the drive train and lifts the wheels off the ground. My
nephew's Stampede is a good example. It has a tall body, but the
gearbox is not that high and once it get's lifted the back wheels are
in mid-air.

I guess it all comes down to your dogs. I play with 1/18th RCs in my
house with my ferrets and it's pretty fun. They want to chase it, not
catch it, so I don't need to be faster then they are.

Is there a way to increase ground clearance for a Traxxas Rustler? Or
should I just buy a Stampede too? I have already boughten it and it makes
it through the grass but at quite a bit slower speed than on dirt or
asphault.

I bought my first RC model a few days ago and the guy reccomended a Traxxas
Rustler, is this no good? What should I look for in my next model if not a
Traxxas?

Pro-Line Masher 2000 tires will put it on par with a Stampede. Be sure
to gear down to offset the tire diameter.

Can you point me to a website that explains how to gear down? Preferably
with photos too? Hopefully I can find a club soon that may have some more
experienced members to help me out, this is my first RC. I'm loving it
though.

Try getting a set like this:

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEX35&P=7

You just swap the little metal gear on the motor output shaft with a
larger or smaller one untill you get good acceleration. Keep in mind
that you'll have to reset the motor position so that the new gear is
meshed with the spur gear. You want it as close as possible without
grinding.
