This is probably a little far fetched, but maybe you folks could point me in the right direction >>>>
My wife & I are dog-show people. We show a male Rottweiler. He needs to be excercised regularly to maintain muscle tone for best appearance in the show ring. The best excercise for a Rottie is running. Soooo...
Are there any electric R/C cars-trucks that would be fast enough to outrun a Rottweiler on several acres of mowed grass?? He can probably do about 20-25mph at best but he can't turn very quickly at that speed.
What do you think?? Possible?? Thanks.

Training it to chase the car may actually be the toughest part...fine line between chasing and then what it does if it catches it. Speed isnt a problem, but if it fliped over or ran low on power.
My parents husky doesnt like my nitro stadium truck...its half scared half curious...comes up to it when its idleing but if you run it toward him he will run away, hehe.
The husky enjoys running beside a golf cart a lot or chasing cats. Thats its main exercise

Thanks, jonesdb. I'm not really worried about whether or not he'll run after the car, virtually certain he will. But I wonder if an electric car would be fast enough for a few circuits around the fenced portion of our backyard (200'x200'). I don't want to mess with fuel and noise if I don't have to. Extra batteries on hand would not be a problem.
At certain types of dog shows, you can't use any type of food for 'bait' so we use a small piece of synthetic, white fur, about 6" long. Was thinking about tying a piece of that fur onto the vehicle with a 2-3' piece of string and letting the car pull it along the ground. The fur weighs maybe 1 ounce, and a piece of string is negligible. If the car flips, the dog would go after the fur, not the car.
But, the big question is whether or not the electric cars would be fast enough??? What do you think??
Thanks

since you're doing it on grass, you're gonna need something like an E-maxx with the torque and ground clearence to move through the grass blades. you're gonna need to double your cost by going brushless as well, since i highly doubt you can get a stock e-maxx to go over 25 mph on grass. might also want to use high end batteries which will bring the total of all this to like $700 at least. Even then, i have no idea if an E-maxx with a brushless motor, and dual GP 3300 7 cell batteries can go 25 mph on grass; i guess it depends on how well mowed the grass is.

Or you could go a cheaper route and just buy a lazer pointer. My dogs love to chase that thing around. Only problem with that is that it has to be dark outside for the dog to be able to see it. You can get a decent lazer pointer for around $10. I'm pretty sure I got my good one at Best Buy for like $12, and it's pretty powerfull.

i used to let my mother in laws retrievers chase after my stadium truck.
I had a gravedigger body on it, and had plush teddy bear fur glued to it to make it look like a little dog. that thing would outrun the retrievers and turned better. the lexan body did suffer nice indentations when the dogs got the truck when it flipped, or pinned, but then i had no reverse to get away either.
you need to have reverse on the electronic speed control! i think that any stadium truck would do, cause were not talking about the dog running at full speed in your yard if the truck is doing figure 8's and stuff.

Hey, thanks for the info. I gotta try this, you know? Maybe Chris hit the nail on the head.... if we keep the truck turning frequently there will be less chance of the mighty Woofus catching it too easily regardless of speed.
Time to go shopping I guess. What's an E-Maxx and where do I find one?? Google-time!!
Thanks much

I was just reading a comparison between the EMaxx & TMAxx on another site and the 'stock' EMaxx's top speed was radared at over 22mph on dirt. That should be just fine for this goofy purpose. If not, there's still room to tweak.
Thanks again
