Here's mine. Lake Balboa in Van Nuys, CA. The red X is the designated model boat launch area but I have seen models go across the entire lake. ;)

The Cleveland (http://www.clevelandmodelboat.com/) Model Boat CLub is fortunate to have a couple of sites. Our Scale pond is located at the Elyria AMVETS Post #32 on 11087 Middle Avenue. The AMVETS post has several lakes, and we generally use the largest near the highway. The Sail and Power boats usually run on Burrows Pond, 9999 Durkee Road. Ohio Route 20 is visible in both pictures, just south of the lakes.

This is Westmoreland Park, the square pond is the Casting Pond.
We fought to keep this pond, and hope to have it refilled next year.
To the north is the duck pond, and it is a good place to run your boat aground in the center.

mpo11: I'm jealous! ;)

Umi_Ryuzuki: it figures the northwest would have a lot of choices. I'm waiting for a Washingtonian to chime in. The whole state is a pond, isn't it? :p

How about a Minnesotian? Land of 10000 lakes, is it? ;)

This is cool, keep em' coming! :D

No pic, but in response to the "Minnesota, land of 10,000 lakes" question, most of the lakes have weeds, boat traffic, soft shorelines etc.. Also, the larger, open lakes can be windy and rough. The Edina Model Yacht Club in Minneapolis uses a large artificial pond network in a park that is part of a large townhouse/condo/office complex called Centennial Lakes. Shallow, pretty weed free, good open area, and usually lots of spectators. Different ponds linked by channels are used separately by sail, speed and scale boats.

It's a reservoir originally built for a local steelworks but now also home to The canoests and oarsmen of Spain's Olympic teams, which is what the building in the background is for

Here's the one in Victoria, BC, Canada.

It was dedicated for the use of model boaters by the mayor in the 1930's.

http://www.rcflix.com/photopost/data/500/612FR05_20-med.JPG This is a shot of a nearby lake that we run at. It's located in Spring Valley Park and generally we have the entire lake to ourselves thanks to a terrible boat launch area. It starts getting weedy in late June-early July so then I have to go to another pond. I have 2 more that are both within 2 miles of my house that I can run at.

Kmot -- is the Van Nuys pond at the Sepulveda basin? I have been to the flying field there but have not been to a boat pond. Is it a club pond? Membership requirements? Thanks.

Hi Pete, the Lake Balboa model boating area is open to the public, just like the rest of Sepulveda Basin. You can enter from either Balboa Blvd, or the Woodley Golf Course entrance on Woodley just north of the entrance to the model airplane field.

Thanks. I am on a rotating schedule of "off days," weekends excluded. Is there any weekday that there would likely be more activity?

When I have gone there on weekdays it is usually deserted. On two occasions I did see another fellow running a large Dumas PT but other than that it is nice and uncrowded, especially peoplewise. Weekends is unbearable to me, peoplewise and still no model boats cuz you can't find parking anywhere near the model cove.

Nice! The portable pier is a very ingenious idea. So you can stand on it? Right? Cool....

Another thing...... do you realize how lucky you are to be able to park 10' from the shoreline? The three ponds I have used in Southern California require all your gear to be hauled anywhere from 20-200 yards. The 20 yarder (Balboa Lake) is on a slight hill so many trips up and down the hill. The other spots require a wagon to trek to the shoreline. .......ugh!

Here is a birds eye view of the pond we are currently negotiating for.

Its at the Sydney Olympic Park site.

More pics when we get access

Nice! The portable pier is a very ingenious idea. So you can stand on it? Right? Cool.... Yes, you can stand on it; and it can slide behind the front seat of my Tahoe. When I was in Florida, we used a slightly different pier set up, see picture below..

Another thing...... do you realize how lucky you are to be able to park 10' from the shoreline? Yes. I know we are lucky with this site. There are 5 ponds on the property, and this is the one we can get closest to. We can get our cars within 20 feet of the 4 other ponds. There is also a porta-pottie about 30 feet from where my car (red Tahoe) is parked. I was standing near the porta-pottie when I took the second picture. The lake is located on the Elyria AMVETS Post #32; five of our club members (including myself) below to that AMVETS Post. After spending some time running our models, we usually retire to the Post for some ice cold liquid refreshments and a light snack.

Sorry, by the Mayor in the 50's! At that time, primarily used for pond sailers style boats, you'd run to the opposite side, push the boat away, run back! Probably the first self induced exercise program for retired guys and they never new. I used to go there with my old man - we all had boats. No bush at that time to stop the wind from the ocean. Always wondered what happened to the rest of the original gang. Perhaps they (or rellies) can surface here. Couple of them worked at St Joe's Hospital....
