I posted about this boat last year and you guys identified it as a Dumas crackerbox, circa 1970's. It was purchased in the condition you see from eBay and I am now getting around to fixing it up. I am doing it as a gift for my dad. I know little to nothing about boats, but I am not new to RC and nitro.
I need help identifying the parts that are broken so I can replace them. Hopefully they are still available.
Here is the boat.

I need a rudder as seen here, one of the two is broken, and this little steering horn also, the assembly says Octura. I also need to replace the missing trim tab, the existing one is brass or copper plate.

Now, what should I do to mount up electrics? the servos are taped in and there is no water proofing at all. I have replacement electronics already.

Also, should I replace the twin metal tanks, or try to clean them out, and what can I clean them with?

That's about it for now. If any knows where I can get these parts it would be much appreciated!
I am going to get it torn down today and try to clean up the engine some, the carb is a bit gummy.
THANKS!! :D

Ok, here is my first correction. The rudder system is not labeled Octura, it has Marine Specialties stamped on each rudder.
Here is the disassembled broken rudder.

I found Marine Specialities www.marinespecialties-rc.com , I assume they are still accepting orders. I will find out today for sure, but it looks like they have the parts I need to repair this boats outdrive.

Dave, if it were me, I would strip everything out of the boat. All components. Then patch and paint the hull. Tear then engine apart, install new bearings and etc if it looks usable. Otherwise get another engine. As for radio gear, it's testable but if it is at all sketchy, change it. AM radio gear is a dime a dozen on ebay. As for the hardware, if you want to replace it with the exact same part, well that may be difficult if the exact part is long out of production. Otherwise, there are plenty of dual rudder setups out there to choose from as well as stuffing tubes, drive lines, couplers, props, etc. Here are some links to hardware mfg's and suppliers:

These links should keep you busy for awhile. ;)
As for the fuel tanks, the same way you would deglaze a nitro engine. Boiling in antifreeze. But I would just replace them with modern plastic tanks.

Thanks for the response Kmot. Yes, I already have the replacement electronics, I am using an AM 2 channel setup from a RTR monster truck that I replaced with a nice programmable FM unit.
See the post above yours, I did find the manufacturer of the rudder system and it appears they have the parts (according to their website anyway) I am preparing to call them now.
Question. What size and style of plastic tank would you recomend? I am somewhat limited by space.

Also, what should I seal the hull with? I was kinda thinking about epoxy resin.

That's not a Crackerbox. The transom has a barrelback shape to it, making it one of the Dumas Sk-Daddle series boats.
Sk-Daddle (Kit 1401) is 36" long and 14" wide, recommended for a marine engine up to .40 size.
Sk-Daddle Too (Kit 1402) is 27" long nd 10.5" wide, fopr a .15 - .21 engine.
Sk-Daddle Jr. (Kit 1403) is 18" long and 7.75" long for electric motor or .048 engine.
The radio system in the pictures has Futaba "G" style plugs, which were phased out around 1985 for the new standard "J" style plugs; the "J" style plugs have more or less become the "standard" plug for every radio.
You might try contacting Dumas for the recommended fuel tank size. You can use fiberglass resin to seal the hull.

Many thanks for the proper identification! That is definately the boat and I have the 36" long version 1401. It has a K&B .61 aircraft engine currently, but I tore it down yesterday and it needs a rebuild, so I may go with a new marine .40.
I found all the other parts and ordered them yesterday from Marine Specialties, including a new deluxe sealed radio box.
Next question. What prop would you guys recommend for this boat with a .40?

I found THIS DYNAMITE .32 MARINE ENGINE (http://www.horizonhobby.com/Shop/ByCategory/Product/Default.aspx?ProdID=DYN6450) it seems reasonably priced and is the same engine used in the new Proboat Shockwave which has gotten very good reviews. They have the mounting system and all supporting hardware over at www.horizonhobby.com and I was think of using this in the boat. Any thoughts on this?
