Hello all,

A friend bought an electric micro Heli about a week ago, a hummingbird v.3
to be exact, and I had to have one as well. I decided to go a tiny bit more
expensive and got a Blade CP by e-flite (I thought it would be better to
start out with a CP so that I wouldnt have to buy one later). I love it but
within the first battery charge I had a minor crash in my living room. I
actualy tapped a pistol radio for a Mini - T electric RC truck....lol. In
any event, The main rotor blade (which are made of wood) broke a tiny bit
off of one corner. In addition the landing skids broke. I used some
superglue to mend the skids and they are holding up very well. The rotor
blade was a worry of mine. I cleaned off the torn bits of the shrink plastic
that coats the blade and used clear plastic packing tape to hold the end of
the blade in tact. I also use an equal amount of tape in the same place on
the opposite blade to ensure they were in balance. I tried to get the heli
to lift off of a bit, and it seemed to do just fine. I have a few questions:

1. Will the bit of missing rotor blade make a HUGE issue or can I get
away with my repair job for awhile?
2. Does anyone know if there are non-wooden blades made that can be used
with the Blade CP?
3. Are there any good websites about learning to fly electric
micro-helicopters?

That is all I can think of for now but I am sure I will coem up with more.

OH and BTW what should be my firststeps in learning how to fly w/o the
benefit of a trainer?

I cant afford a simulator that will allow me to use my radio as the control

As far as I can see, hoovering is what is the basic skill to aim for.
You can train that in low altitude (< 10 inches)

Thanks for the sites...awsome the 2 of them.
Although helifever is more for gas it is still FULL of incredible info and a
great series of "lessons" that will make learning more fun and productive.

I got a bit of a simulator going using the following:

1 x Xbox controller - about 25ukp

1 x Xbox-to-USB adapter lead - about 10ukp

I too, have a Blade.

I have the training gear with the bright orange balls, have gone through
a couple sets of blades too.

Shortening the ends by a 1/4 inch doesn't seem to affect the flying
much.

I fly on very smooth concrete, inside,,,,,,, tried flying outside twice
with bad results both times,

Still doing the tail to me bit, I have stopped hitting stuff within a
twenty foot circle but have to cut the throttle often to keep from
hitting big stuff outside the flying area,

two friend have the Shogun, and hover pretty well, having been there,
done that with the Blades a few weeks ago. they paid a bunch of money to
gain some expertise, the fancy 150 dollar heading hold, etc,,,,,,,,

several trips to the seebree, KY hobby shop, almost every other day as
it is,,,,,,,,,very addivtive it is

the experts are prolly remembering their first flights as they read
this,,,,,,,,,,

I've done RC planes since I was 16 or so, my first radio was a Space
Control protportional setup, four ch,,,,,,,,

Tonight I tried a lithium battery, needed to kill it before doing the
first chages,, flew more time than two or three of the stock blue 8
cell NiMH packs that come with the Blade,,,,,,, this pack was the 1350
mah pack,,,

With this pack, the tail seems more stable, like the gyro is working
better with the higher voltage ???

my main business is ultralight aircraft, i make them, sell them, repair
them, engines too, train, etc,

my website is http://trikite.com

I enjoy the emails, so keep them coming,,,,,,,,,,,

Yeah, the Blade CP can use non-wooden blades. I saw one at HobbyTown in
Centerville, VA that had Carbon Fiber blades and I think you can get
those as upgrades from e-flite.
