View Full Version : what's a good simulator program to use

I just went through my first dragonfly and have another one ordered and after looking for a sim program I can't find one that has the double blades and none on the back.I did try to use another one but couldn't get it to work with the transmitter but it did work with the key board witch is useless.Does anyone know where I can download one and is there any info on getting it to work with the tran's? it came with the cable to run from the tran's to the PC and I tryed everything on the program to get it to work with no luck.it seems like I got a good deal at $110 for it but that's still to much if it crash's as much as my first one.thanks slickmustang

There is a free one called FMS which I suspect is what came free with your
dragonfly.
It can be downloaded from http://n.ethz.ch/student/mmoeller/fms/index_e.html
I suspect the reason you can't get it to work is that the cable is not
compatible with the version of windows that you are running.
FMS comes with instructions to build your own cable very cheaply - it's
usually these types of cable that ship with the dragonfly (et al). These
interfaces use either the parallel or serial port directly in a non-standard
way. This is fine for Windows 98 and ME, but will not work for NT, 2000 or
XP. This is because the NT-based operating systems restrict the use of the
serial and parallel ports for security reasons and will not permit what it
thinks as non-standard use.
If you use an NT-based OS (e.g. XP) you need an intelligent interface.
These have some electronics inside which makes the OS think the transmitter
is a standard device. With one of these the simulator will work fine. I've
used this company before http://www.welwyn.demon.co.uk/fms_lead/fms_lead.htm
but you may be able to find a more convenient US supplier - just do a search
for FMS and PIC.
Onto the simulator itself.
It is well present and looks very good considering its free. The physics
engine is lightweight so the helis are very easy to fly, but it will teach
you stick co-ordination etc.
I'm not aware of any sim that models contra-rotating hubs - there may be a
few skins you could use but I suspect underneath the pictures it's just a
standard single rotor plus tail rotor.
Cheers,
Nigel

Hello everybody,
I personally really have this problem too.
I recently bought a Dragonfly model #40. and it seems that the 6channel
TX cannot work for now on simulators... it is like not recognized.. .
and nothing to do !!
6ch TX of other Dragonfly 22 or else were working, but last ones, even
if transmitter seems to be the same, are not working for now. and no
any solution about this, not any help from Walkera or even no any tips
working threw any forum... for now.
If somebody could help ! would be really great instead of us spending
money in spare parts !

Hi Libertycat.
It is the second time I read you are using your walkera transmitter to
use the FMS simulator... I cannot make it to work yet... I have used
the ppjoy without success, the picjoy does not work because I am using
the cable incluided in the heli... Everybody recommends a pic cable,
but they are made for the JR, Hitec, Futaba, multiplex... transmitters,
no the walkera one...
Can you help me please?
Thank You.
