LOL! :p Yeah if you search I bit, I think there was a huge thread debating whether he was really piloting the heli or not

Its in the 3d fuel forum.

When you look at the site, view the video with the inset of him working the sticks...He's either really flying or he can perfectly fake the stick movements (in which case he could fly it anyway).

Martinic,
Yeah I know right. Hes doing it all. THeres no doubt hes doing it himself. Simple amazing what you can learn in 2.5 years. Yep thats right 2.5 years. He flew on the sim to practice. I read the other thread thats why I know this. Simply amazing though.

It is real! It may be easier to just assume it is fake than to accept that a nine year old can fly that well, but in the fuel heli forum, there are several eye-witness reports confirming that it is legit.

Well as most of us in here have past our younger youthful days and some more than others(no offense to any just a joke). I am sure we can all relate and think back a bit to when we were young and how easy it was to play and master video games at such an early age and now if we try the same games we played then we will be lucky to play like we did back then. So my point is the younger you start in this hobby the more likey one is to succeed because a young kid has no fear (repair cost) so if we could as adults not care about the cost of repair then I am sure we could fly like that( I am not saying anything bad about him cause I have some major respect for this kid he out performs most adults I have seen) We as adults just see the consiquences for our actions and young kids do not think like we do so there will always be less/ no fear in our kids when it comes to stuff like this. We can say we have no fear or are not affraid of crashing but deep down you all know who you are you still think twice about that FFF for beginers or that inverted hoover at 1 to 2 ft for you advanced flyers  Anyways I liked the vid and that kid has skills. Happy flying!! :)

Hmfpr, you say no offense but how 'bout us that are too old for video games. All they had when I was that age was tv-tennis and I sure didn't learn anything from that that I can use now when flying the Rex

I think you're a little off the mark... it really probably has nothing to do with the fact that he 'doesn't care' about repair cost... unless of course his parents are millionairres and hired a trained helihobbyist to purchase and repair all the damage from all his crashes...
rather it has more to do with your title and his age... "hand-eye coordination" is wired into your brain.....
a young person is still growning, the connections in the brain still being made.... thus comparing a 28yrs olds 2.5yrs of training to a 9yrs olds 2.5yrs of training would inevitably (all else being equal IQ, etc etc) net better flying and quicker learing from the nine yr old... motor skills and hand-eye coordination are best when learned and developed at a young age.... dribble a basketball from age 2, vs the guy who picks it up when he's 18yrs old... the 18yr old will NEVER develop the equivalent motor skills of the 2yr old who 'ingrained' basketball dribling at such a young and 'brain-impressionable' age.....
speak french to your american child while he's in your wifes womb... or just play french tapes for him/her... then start teaching them french at a young age.... he'll pick it up like its an old habit (which it truly is)... try to start teaching 16yrs olds French that have never heard a word of it in their lives... its no longer so easy.
nonetheless amazing... but as the saying goes sort of.... "its hard to teach an old dog new tricks" this logic exists for a reason.

Very cool video. Seems like sim time paid off for this kid, having daddies bank roll to help repair crashes ain't too bad either! Plus Not having the fear of shelling out cash ,makes you take chances you would not normally do!

I don't think you really disagree Roanld and ejs. Kids have a different way of learning things and I have to agree with ejs that my wallet is surely restraining how far I'm willing to go. Have a teenager in the house that seldom thinks about cost till it's too late. A 9 year old does not think consequences in the same way we do consequently it does not restrain him (as much or at all). They just don't think as much as grown ups do when learning something, they just do it. I think that's what you both mean..
I certainly hope you are not all correct Ronald as I started with helies after turning 40 and I'd very much like to be able to do what Kyle does some day...
Just been out flying my T-Rex...man I absolutely love this hobby and I love to notice I'm getting better at it. Had a close call that made me shake all the way down to the wallet....

:) I do hope you don't meen to offend but here I'm an old dog but I'm learning.
An old dog (real dog) does not want to learn, that's the major problem, not the abilities, for dogs that is...

Yeah, that guys amazing!
Kind of depressing, had my heli for over a year, and still hovering... :o :(
I know Im 14, but hes 9! Oh man...
Hes got a site:
www.kylerocks.com
His dad actually said that he hardly ever plays video games, only his brother. And he does use sims, but not that much.
But yeah, hes definatley cool! I would love to see him at a fun fly, hes been to/going to a few I think.
Oh, and I hardly ever play games, dont even have a games console, and only have like 2 games on my PC, which I play maybe once a month... And Ive never really used a Sim, unless FMS (using keyboard) counts...

I want to first start by appologizing to those that took offense to my comment about video games, I am sorry! This was only a reference not to be the focus of my post. I see a few people have looked past my age defining coment and actualy see my point that when we were in our youth our motor skills were being developed and we could adapt to our enviroment more easily than we can now and in that adaptaion our learning curvs were much shorter than they are now. My other point has nothing to do with his father being rich(bank rolling his hobby) or anything like that, as we learn we think about cost of repairs before we try certain things we know the value of a a dollar we work for them it is highly unlikely that this kid @ 9yrs has worked a day in his life other than house chors or the such so he may not fully understand the value yet! Most of us in here fly with a limited budget so we fly engrosed with some fear which restricts our learning speed and lengthens our learing curv.I am not saying that he just goes out and tears up his heli and lets dad fix it, he may actualy not crash at all but without the thought of cost of repair in mind we would be more likely to try diffrent things without hessitation and there for shorten our learning curvs. I was also not saying that video games make it easier to fly infact I played a lot of games as a kid and it has not helped me any, that was a reference to hand eye coordination and motor skills development cause that is what it takes to play games and fly heli's.
I have nothing but respect for everyone in here we make this hobby great because not everyone here is a pro, we are all learning and without the help of eachother we would progress slower and be more frustrated all the time. So let me once again appologize to those that took offense and say thanks for all the help I have recieved for you guys.

Just would like to say I was not offended at all. I'm comfortable with my age and I was just horsing around. I agree with you on your points.
I've heard he's in "the golden age" for learning motoring(motoric?) skills so at less than a quarter of my age he has a big advantage and I'm envyous, I would have loved to have helis when I was 9 :)

Hey Tintin just think how good we could be now if we would have been as lucky as he is. He has talent that I wish I had but learning is half the fun right. My dad also flys an hbv2 and I showed him the vid and he was amazed at how well this kid can fly. It does not matter how old or young you are as long as you have fun doing it I mean I am 28 and my dad is 51 and I think he has more fun than I do. lol :)

Unlucky as I was my father only built sailing ships when I was Kyles age and he did not let me "help". I drooled over the speed boats in his hobby catalogues. I started with rc after rounding 40 as I found out I would have to try before it was to late, now I'm hooked.
Past 2 years I've bought 6 trucks, 2 helis and a plane. At least 2 more helis are on the wishing list and probably a plane or 2.
Was out flying till 10:45 last evening (it's summer and good light late) and I just completely love it, it's sooo good when you notice improvement. Best thing is the wife is saying I'm in better mood when I get to fly so she encourages me :)

Kinda fun watchin a kid that can fly like that. This kid practices a lot. If you ever make it to www.runryder.com you'll see Ray has been a member forever. We have a couple kids doing real well at our field as well. Hopefully mine will follow in their footsteps. The 3 year old is a hoot to watch fly. ;)
I find it interesting to read about 'no fear', 'daddies money', and 'video games'. Yeah these kids have good hand eye coordination, but everyone I've met is usually more uptight about crashing then their father. The days where kids don't know the value of a buck are long gone, IMHO.
What a great way to spend time with your kids.

Sorry Mr. Lin, but almost every post you have has something to do with GWS products. I am not sayting they are bad (I have quite a lot of GWS parts on my heli and plane), but your constant spamming gets a bit annnoying sometimes...
Anyway, back to the topic, yes, his Dad does pst on here. He replied a few times in the thread about his son in the 3D nitro forum.
And yeah, I wish my dad was interested in RC. He occasionally asks me questions e.t.c. but he doesnt have a real question. It would be/is hard to get him to take me to a park or flying field so I can fly my plane and heli... :(

The main factor that holds back adult pilots is fear, it's easy to be fearless when daddy's footing the bill, he has no clue what most of us have to do to get an extra 1-2-300 dollars to fix juniors little boo boo if it happened.

Hi guys,
I love a good thread!
Thank you for the great support and comments.
I can answer some of the questions.
Kyle does not play video games. His brother has a PS2 but Kyle has never had much interest in it.
Kyle does use his Reflex simulator. He practices every day for about two hours. I never push him to practice. It is something he wants to do.
Kyle has only had one crash and that was about two weeks ago. I asked him to fly the backwards snake left to right with skids facing him. This is opposite of his normal snake. He made a mistake and crashed. We then took out our X-Spec and he tried it again. This time he got it perfectly. Prior to that there was only maintenance and fuel expense so it is safe to say that he hasn't buried me repair bills. While on that subject, I will not let cost get in the way of Kyle's progress. Worrying about money would be the best way to slow him down.
Kyle knows that when he crashes, we repair it and fly it again the next day. No anger or disappointment. Just fix it and fly it.
We just got back from the XFC where Kyle got to meet all of the pilots that he admires. It was a great experience that I am sure he will remember for a long time. We are looking forward to IRCHA and meeting more people from the Internet groups.
We love doing this hobby together and I am going to support him in it as long as he needs me to.

Well after some long, hard thought, I have decided to not take your suggestion.
Instead we continue to spend many hours flying and the pleasure of watching Kyle improve cant be described.
We posted one of his new X-Spec videos on his web site.
I have a few more to work on tonight.
We hope to see a lot of you at IRCHA.
