Hello,
I am going to get my son started in r/c planes but I would like him to practice on the sim before he tries a real plane. I have Realflight G3 and the volume 3 add-on. What would be a good, slow, easy flying electric plane to start him on? I can't find a slow stick in G3.

thanks,
tim

Even though the plane is gas I would recommend a trainer like the PT-40...

Or even the NexStar w/ AFS to get him going and thinking the controls, but then migrate him to the NexStar w/out the AFS (they're both in the same NexStar list) to learn the controls better.

Yeah... I am not the biggest NexStar fan. I don't like the idea of relying on technology to save the day. I actually learned how to fly using Real Flight a couple years ago. I started by flying inside the plane or using chase cam to get a feel for the plane. Flight characteristics, especially landing. Chase cam is good to learn how planes fly and what is happening.

Then once I could fly and land I switched back to normal camera mode. I think seeing what is going on and being able to figure it out without help is big. Learning lessons like planes get small quickly is easily learned on Real Flight.

In the end you can just go though the standard stuff like, figure eights. The only thing that is not supported in Real Flight that I think is crucial to learning is basic safety. The speed controllers don't do normal safety stuff like. Pushing the throttle to full forward and then back to idle is a good thing to learn. Maybe they can add a safety (reality mode) in the future.

I am hoping to finish up some RC versions of some of my electric models like the Kabriolin.
