Hi guys ,

A few months ago i purchased a sig riser 100 kit here in Austrailia for the Aussie thermal season and it sat for about two months , until i decided to open the sealed box casue all my slope models died and apon opening the kit I had noticed a large number of parts missing , so i contacted the place of purchase and then sig to find out what may of happened with a list of the parts after receiving the instructions that were also missing , aparently it was a packaging mistake by an employee and for my incoveniences i am getting a replacement kit free for my inconveinience :D

and also get to keep my originial kit for spares..

so i was wondering what mods , if any have been done to the riser 100 , that dont add too much weight , but increase the strength in the tail , as i cant really say that im keen of the ply cut-outs and i am thinking of doing some sort of /\ bracing to increase the rigidity as im afraid that i might snap the rear end off on a hard landing as its not like my standard riser. , if it actually does though at least i have spares...

i will be following with a build thread as soon as i get the kit .. so if there is any mods that anyone can show or think of it would be greatly appreciated..
i cant wait to get her started , as i have already been waiting a few months to get into it..

cheers :D :D

Hey Doug

I owned a Riser 100 about ten years ago, and one thing I can say for sure is that those notches in the fuselage are definitely weaks points. My fuse cracked completely in half after it's first moderately rough cartwheel, one that my Gentle Lady would have easily survived. When I rebuilt it, I made an entirely new fuse by making the fuse sides out of replacement ply, but without the notches, and trimming the tabs off the stock bulkheads. This made the whole thing so much stronger.

Also, watch out for the length of rudder control rod tubing as it exits the fuse. I first used the yellow plastic outer housing (can't remember the brand) and there was so much of it unsupported outside of the fuse that it actually flexed in a high side wind (starboard side), and there was no way I could turn it into the wind (i.e. the wind overcame the force of the servo).

I'm sure there are other mod's, but none that I know of.

The 100 is a great flyer though. I've gotten 90+ minute flights starting from a slope and heading up into thermals.

Good luck with your build. Keep us informed.

Reinforce the fuse at the trailing edge.
Add carbon fiber spar caps, full thickness webs and kevlar.
Install spoilers as it'll fly high.
Enjoy flying it.

I started building the fuselage last night , and I wanted to try the first fuselage i built with all the tabs and the same methods used in the manual with only a few minor mods as i really didnt want to add any extra weight that would increase stresses on the airframe , i reinforced at the trailing edge bottom where it is most prone to break , with two 6mm triangle peices , and i also put balsa supports for the pushrods to prevent them from bending inside the fuselage , i am quite surprised how fast the glider is coming together and also it does feel quite strong , i have chose to use the bolt on method with spoilers activated by the string method , i have also noticed that there is alot of innacuracies in the t-joints , which i will fill with a small dose of pu glue and sand flush with the sides , i have found that this works real well on models of this construction as it increases the strength at the joint when it expands.

i am hoping to get more done tonight i will post the photos soon.

oops , i completed her , check out the lines of her..

yellow and clear monokote , when she is specking out it looks like a hlg , I changed the pushrods from stock to carbon ,5mm kite rods which have a hole in the middle of them that acceps the 2/56 threaded rod perfectly , just put some ca on the metal rod after adjusting the length..presto , instant pushrod..

heres a pic of the completed bird.
