Here is a real nice directional antenna for 2.4 Ghz video links :) . It is small, light, and mounts to a standard camera tripod and has a gain of about 13 dB. It is directional but not so much so that you need to keep aiming it, it has a effective beamwidth of about 70 degrees so you can point it in the genaral direction of the airplane and you are good to go. It is vertically polarized in these pictures... The reciever is mounted right to the back of the antenna so there is almost no coax loss (a long run of coax at 2.4 GHZ has a HUGE amount of loss  ). I have been using this type of antenna with much success for long range computer wireless networks. It should be really great with my 2.4 GHZ video gear :D

Nice!

Any chance you could post the specs and dimensions?

I will do you one better than that, here are a couple sites that give you all the information you need to build the antenna. Look at them both, and look at the links also, lots of good information there :D
