Hi all!
I want to purchase a new transmitter for my glider...
I need it for thermal gliding (F3J Planes)...
I can't decide between the JR XP8103 PCM or the Airtronics Stylus PCM...
which one is better for thermal advanced gliders?

I think you could go 'round and 'round on that one, but since the JR 9303 has been released, you can find gently-used 8103's for a song (I did).

The timing on this topic is perfect! I bought a Stylus almost a year ago but due to circumstances never even tried to proram a sailplane into it until last week. I have flown JR for years but when it came time for a new Tx I asked around and decided on the Stylus. Right now I am trying to decide if that was a good move or not.

What my dilema comes down to is this:

I am sure the Stylus can do everything most people want to do, but..... be absolutely sure you buy the appropriate program card to go with it. I did not do so and am at a standstill on my new TD full house bird. Unless I am missing something in the manual I am way too limited on reflex/camber, trims and such without the card. This card alone now sells for $115.00, or at least that is the cheapest I have found it. Added to the price of the TX, I could have gotten the 9303 if I had waited until now.

A friend just got the 9303 and it appears that it will do it all and I, at least with my JR experience, find that it is a lot easier to program.

I have posted the Stylus for sale on several forums to see if I can get enough for it to justify letting it go and buying the JR. If not, I will bite the bullet and order the card.

If you decide on the Stylus, send a pm to me and see if I still have it but remember, you will need the card to get full use of it. Mine is for all intent brand new. I am not using this post as a classified, just giving you some ideas and possible options.

Hope this helps!

Sean get the Card ..... great radio.

I got mine because lot's of guys fly them in my club.

It really was easy to setup. I like to fly, not fiddle with programming :D
