View Full Version : Idea HOW-TO: Adding channels to HFS-04MG and other 4015 based RX units!

Because I only had HFS-04MG units and wanted to make a CCPM heli I needed to see if I could modify the RX to 5 or 6 channels.
After a bit of tinkering, I can now report that it worked!

Basically the idea is to extend the design to utilize the second part of the shift register it already has.

Here's a DIY for the HFS-04MG:
1. Seperate pin 1 of the device from the ground on the corner of the board.
(You can't cut the entire "ground-arm" as there are two vias and a capacitor there.)
2. Connect the now free pin1 to pin9. (This connects the clock signal to the second part of the shift register.)
3. Connect pin6 to pin14. (This connects reset to the second part of the shift register.)
4. Connect pin10 to pin15. (This transfers data to the second part of the shift register.)
5. Connect the channels you need (ch5=pin13, ch6=pin12, ch7=pin11 and ch8=pin2) and secure them wisely.

This DIY should be easy to adapt to any other 4015 based RX if one checks that none of the pinns are wired elsewhere. In most cases pin1 will be grounded. This is done to prevent noise in the chip.

See attached images for a visual on how the mod is done.

Enjoy and good luck!

Good work, My replacement receiver will be bought today, once its had a range check( range was the problem last time, same receiver) its going straight onto the workbench, only I may use flying leads, as the case is a tight fit in my M60 as it is....

Full detailed instructions and photos will be taken, probably published on my site (when I bother to finish it)

Sadly, the Electron 6 is not modifiable by these means... The decoder differs from that of the HFS range, and is incompatible, I am as yet unable to locate datasheets for this part...

The HFS-04MI+ is modifiable by a similar but more simple method, I cannot test this for you, as my only 04MI+ is broken... I will provide photos of how to do the modification all the same, if you have had it work, or not work, let me know

Here's the 04MI, connect wires to the pins marked in red to obtain 3 more channels (ch5 is already connected to the battery terminal...

EDIT: Sorry, pic aint working, will redo it!

Thanks,
