Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and want to share with everyone some information on the company I work for. I live in Vancouver, BC and work for a company called Universal Wing Geophysics. I am by no means a UAV expert but I work with some very savvy scientific individuals. We have developed a UAV with an onboard magnetometer for the purpose of collecting data. We are flying our UAV already and have completed a survey recently at the Diavik diamond mine (very close to the Arctic circle). I encourage everyone to look at our website www.universalwing.com and watch some of the video of our plane flying (go to the demo reel). If anyone has questions for me I will try my best to answer them.

Cheers,

Ktrain

What is the maximum payload weight of your UAV?

At my place of work we are investigating UAVs that would need to
carry an electronic package of infrared cameres that would weigh
100 to 200 pounds.

Ktrain,

Thanks for your willingness to share with us. The Airframe looks reminiscent of one I saw a guy developing a few years back. (Darius or something like that) Very unique layout with a lot of well placed wing.

You guys didn't work with the Canadian company "Micro Pilot" to develop a guidance system? It's cool you came up with your own. It would take some un-conventional work to interface with those control surfaces. Do you mind me asking how they are employed? I mean do they act like ailerons, flaps, elevators, adjustable pitch canard etc. I would think all, or in part of those. They must be pretty challenging to work with.

One picture shows the "Jetson's" UFO car on top. It looks like some sort of a solar calibration device with leveling legs. (Vaisala parts?) Is that part of the stabilization package?

Thanks again for sharing.

Hi John & Dan

With regards to the payload I don't know that answer specifically.
To answer your question Dan our plane was designed by Dara Avation (Dr. John Torode) www.daraaviation.com the other detailed question you had I will have to look into and get back to you.

I am also wondering what kind of an engine you use?

That's a very nice airplane. Any idea on the top speed, or range? The web site says that depending on payload the craft can stay aloft for up to 8 hours. I'm sure from the video it was doing at least 60 or more mph; if so that would equate to roughly 500 miles ranging distance (round trip)... pretty good.
