Decided that I now wish to give up my lifelong hobby of fishing and sell my
boat and get into r/c heli's which have always fascinated me.
Was planing on buying a petrol model but now sure what I need to buy to be
fully setup. I am in western australia , south of perth and am looking for
any good stores that you may know of that are fairly local. I wont do mail
order etc.
I will have around $2500 to spend so I dont want to end up with rubbish.
Thanks
Dennis

My best advice would be to visit the forum on www.runryder.com which is
dedicated to helicopters and has quite a few Australian members.
The next bit of advice would be to get a simulator (Reflex, G3, AeroFly
Pro). This will give you an idea whether you have the interest and the
knack and will pay for itself many times by reducing the number of crashes.
Find a club or person who will teach you and listen to their advice.
Regardless what helicopter is recommended on the internet it is best to go
with what the club recommends as you will have access to loads of advice,
help and spares etc.
Having said that you will need
Helicopter (30 or 50 size) - can't go wrong with Raptor but best to stick
with what the club uses
Engine to match
Helicopter radio (Transmitter, Receiver, Servos, Battery)
Gyroscope
Fuel (lots of)
Starting Gear (glow lighter, battery, starter, starter shaft, charger)
Basic tools (screw drivers, allan keys, spanners, threadlock)
Setup Tools (Pitch guage, tacho, paddle guage etc) - If you join a club you
may be able to borrow this
In the UK I would allow around £1,000 ($2,500AUS) for this. From what I've
read, Australia (like Britain) does not enjoy cheap prices for RC gear. But
a lot of the Australian members on Runryder buy from Hong Kong etc which
will result in considerable savings.
Cheers,
Nigel

There is a R/C shop on Newcastle Street (corner of Charles Street) in West
Perth. When I was in WA I bought my helo from them. Brian knows what he is
talking about and has a strong link with the Helo flying club in Perth. I
wouldnt buy from anywhere else in WA.
