Wow, today was apparently a day that it was hard not to find lift. I flew a glider for the first time today, and my first flight ever off of a 50 ft. histart was over a minute. On a 36+ ounce 2 meter highlander with a dummy at the controls I thought that was pretty good. I guess I flew through quite a few budding thermals on that first flight as the plane didn't seem to want to come down except when I did silly things at the sticks, like overcontrolling the elevator.

I did 3 flights my first time out, and 2 of the landings were nice flat glides into long grass. The third flight I got scared I was going to end up 60' high in a tree so I just pointed the nose away from the tree and overcontrolled the plane nose first into the soft ground. No damage, except I either broke or weakened the epoxy joint from my control horn to coroplast rudder. It was cool enough that the 5 min epoxy wasn't setting quickly and my kids were whiny enough that I called it a day.

Me:3 Damage: 0.

Congrats on the first flight! Sounds like an excellent one! :D :D The Highlander looks like a nice unpowered one to learn on!
