well i can fly 3D, hover tail and nose in and fly around quite well on G2, and FMS.
But i still can't nose in hover for very well, with my real micro heli?
Am i learning the wrong things with G2? :(

G2 is a good heli sim, however, micro helis are a lot more finicky and unstable then any other heli, also, g2 doesnt really compensate for the fact that its not real, so flying a real heli will seem slightly harder then the sim.

RFG2/G3 heli simulation is not very good, better than FMS but not in the same league as XTR or AFPD - if you are serious about helis you should buy one of those - $180 for a decent sim is probably a lot less than a few heli crashes!
As a slightly cheaper alternative - if you can find a copy of the Ikarus Piccofly simulator somewhere (maybe on ebay if it's not available commercially?) then it is a pretty good training aid for flying micro helis - it is bloody difficult - just like real micro helis!

hi,
i only have G2 so i can't compare it to other sims, but only to real life. ive found if i pick the most touchy heli in G2(i think the foiler 3D or raptors are most finicky) and put alot of wind, it gets me better prepared to fly in RL. i can fly FFF and BF pretty well in the sim, but i am still working on hovering and some basic forward flight with my corona.
take into consideration, that the helis in the sim are perfectly trimmed, tuned, and balanced. as everyone knows real life cannot be that easy...i wish it could :D
I just want to tell you your not alone!

i've tryed untrimmer the G2 helis :) but i can still fly them better then my micro.
is the a skill level setting in g2?

For me, the "most touchy heli" was the easiest to fly. The foiler 3D wasn't "finicky" but sensitive - a big difference. I got to the point I could hover it inverted, and with all the power and pitch, you can easily bail out. I suggest trying the .049 and the electric. They fly poorly, so if you can get good at those, then you will do better with your micro. Maybe.
I strongly disagree with the statement that Aerofly and XTR are "better" for learning helis. I've tried all three, and there are differences, but better? No, not imho.

hi,
when i thought about it, finicky meant unpredictable, and touchy meant sensitive. i guess finicky was the wrong word, because the foiler and raptor are "touchy"; what i meant was they have quick movements which take quick responses. they have more or less increased my response time, so that it will be natural for me to control the heli if a sudden gust throws it off track or whatever. however, while flying my corona today i realized that it performed more like my modified wattnott than any of the others. the pitch up tendency was very similar between the two...

Try:
Options->Miscellaneous->Time Multiplier
If you set this to about 130%, it will become as twitchy as a real micro.

Yep. The simulation of the Corona coning is pretty good in RFG2. It still doesn't have enough cyclic though...I need to spend more time on the Watt Not/Corona parameters and tweak it to have more cyclic.

g2 and g3 ive found are good for helis, i have xtr, thats even better, if you already have g2, might wanna check out clearview, www.rcflightsim.com , its free for 2 hours use then just $30usd, those of the good sims, i , have found afp and afpd quite pathetic for helicopters from the lack of translational lift and the physics of them.

Hi everyone,
First, a thought on the original thread subject. Don't ever forget the pucker factor. "Real" sensory input can vastly change your actions and reactions to controlling the helicopter. I found that when transitioning to the real thing after learning on the sim I was very overwhelmed. That quickly passed as I gained confidence and the real helicopter started seeming much more like the sim helicopter as I gained confidence and wasn't in sensory overload mode. Don't underestimate how much the reality of the situation, and the fear, affect the way you react to flying a real heli.

Although your opinion is as valid as the next guy, I'll state the obvious and say anyone making a decision from these opinions should weigh a bunch of opinions before making a purchase decision, and if you can, find out what the experience level is of the person giving the opinion. After you soak up the 1000's of opinions out there, I recommend you try out the different sims to find out which one serves your personal preferences best. Personally, thanks to online market places, when I'm upgrading I like to buy each of the sims used for as cheap as possible, try them all out, then re-sell the one's I don't want. I guarantee you there is no one sim that is right for everyone.
If you read the threads on RunRyder on this subject you will find several very, very experienced heli pilots that feel G3 is the most realistic (physics) sim available right now. Also, one of them states they feel the G3 heli's are actually less stable than their own heli's and if your real heli isn't more stable than the sim's, you don't have them set up correctly.
I've had G2(also AFP and the original RF) for quite some time, and learned how to fly a heli on it before I ever touched a real one. And although it is not 100% realistic, it does teach you everything you need to know as a beginner to learn to fly, as I'm sure any of the current sims will do too. As far as advanced and 3D flying, I can't offer an educated opinion. After weighing many opinions it seems Reflex and G3 sound like they are most capable for heli's and AFPD for planes, but I plan to try them all out myself before settling on one of them(or maybe two). I have G3 on the way now. One thing that I think is clear is that Reflex has the best graphics, and if that's what's most important to you, then I think your choice is easy. Unfortunately the three top sims all have features I want, but none of them have them all. It's a tough and not so clear decision for me now, so hopefully trying them all will make more clear which sim is best for me.....though I have a feeling I'm going to need to own at least two of them and maybe all three.
