Been lurking the last couple of days checking out the forums and following links to all over the place. Been having an idea to build a 1/64 scale of the battleship Missouri or Montana class that was never produced, but I think it will change to a 1/72 scale so that I can join a RC combat fleet and have some fun, which is the reason for this post. Wanted to thank everyone for the great links and ideas posted and especially thank Umi Ryuzuki for posting the link to the Scale Model Warship Club. Think I may have to look into the club a little more.

You have great ambitions... A Battleship at 1/72nd will come out at almost 12 feet.
We can not confirm or deny that there may be up to four battleships under construction within our club membership.

However, I would recommend you start out with a destroyer. Two or three guns, Pick a nation, and we can recommend some ships. But to start out in combat with a 12 footer is just like parking a target on the pond and saying come shoot me, I am slow and really really big, and slow and big.... You can get an idea of how concerned some of these guys are with how big a target battleships can be, here;

Lots of concerns, I think in the end, I would just like to see some of these guys launch them. :D

If you build the ship to combat specs the model will be strong and durable. If you decide that in the end, you can't bear to have th ship shot up,... We can respect that. We have helped a lot of members build ships, that ended up as part of the Scale fleet somewhere rather than fighting on the pond. ;)

The Missouri would come up to 12.8 feet at 1/72 scale. As for your battleship confirmation, from the Combat forum sounds like 3 are close to being finished as of last october.

Your idea of a destroyer first is a good idea. I need a platform to test theories and ideas off of, just have to go figure out what class I want and find plans for them.

As for building a combat ship and not using it, whats the point of doing that. No since arming it unless your going to use it.

Also going to a bigger round on battleships not a good idea. Killing someone on shore would not be fun, but would give a whole new element of making the captians flinch and run for cover.

I have plans for:
German Z1-5. although I would recommend modifications to anything above Z-24 for a good turret configuration. A good set may be available for the higher class Z boats through someone else in the club.

Italian Maestrale Class- Which can be manipulated to Oriani, and Soldati class and a couple others.

American Benham Class - Good starter hull has been used to create Mahan, Shaw. The hull is based on the Gridley class. Fletcher and Gridley class plans are available through the club.

Japanese WWI Shimakaze/Minikaze Class. A little tight for space, but a maneuverable little ship. The club also has Kagero class ship plans.

British - K class plans are also floating around the club membership. and may be on disc. This set has been manipulated to two or three different ships.

I am not sure what plans we have scanned to disc. E-mail the webmaster, via the home page, he should have the current list of digitized plans.

Almost all of our events seem to be scheduled in Oregon this year. I am not sure where you are located, but if we have a club member near you, I am sure we can get them to help you with setting up your ship.

Looking for Fletcher plans as of now, like the idea of building the Rooks from the seattle boat yards. As for events I'm a long way off from that, but it would be nice to come and look at the different models and what to expect.
Since the club has plans and are willing to share I'll see if I can get a hold of them, if I'm less the successful in my search.

Umi: I too have been lurking and joined the forum today. One question where do I find more information on your combat club and a list of battle dates.

We have a web site That lists things such as rules, construction rules, and the calendar of events.

http://www.nwlink.com/~pfleming/

This is 1/72nd combat, We are somewhat localized to the Pacific Northwest, and California(San Jose), With members in Wisconsin, and Nevada.

If you are looking for other more local clubs, Most are often 1/144 scale, and run somewhat different rules. We keep list most active clubs here.
