Hi,
I'm looking for somebody could build a RC boat that would be using for fishing, chumming/baiting your fishing area. I would like 2 hoppers, each can be release separately and can hold about 2-3 kilo of chum/bait. 40Mhz 4 or 6 channel radio. I will give you many examples if you are interested and you can even view a video of what I'm talking about, they offer these boats in the UK for way out of my price range so thought somebody with the know-how of RC boats could build one for fraction of the price and be just as good.
If a boat is built that is a reasonable price and reliable, there will be many people in my type of fishing who would be interested in getting one, e-mail me if you're interested... cangler at gmail dot com

I think this is kind'a what your looking for:

It looks pretty stright forward, shouldn't be too hard to find someone to glue it up for you, good luck!!!

I see what you mean about prices. The sites I've seen are all fairly light on the boats technical aspects. Some seem to use "pumps" for drive, which I thing must be a hydrojet type. Apart from the weed issue, I can't see why normal props and rudders could not be used. I could see no reference to motors anywhere but the size of the bait boats makes me think in terms of a 500 size motor. Presumably speed is less important than duration and slow speed handling. All this would point to the use of geared motors. With prices over the $1000 mark for some models, I'm sure some local modeller could build something functional much more cheaply.
As I said in my e-mail, the only thing novel to the average boater would be the hopper and its release mechanism.

I was told that the 40mhz frequency they use on the bait boats in the UK is not US legal, so I guess a 27mhz 3 or 4 channel radio system should do the trick. I can give numerous examples of bait boats you can work from to help you build it! There are so many different designs out there, here's one of my fav design I would consider... stealth bait boat (http://www.baitboats.com/baitboats.htm), with the 2 hoppers, 1 on each side. holding 1 per kilo

HOOOO!!!That stealth boat is a bit pricey for something to dump chum into the water.......>_<

That's what I thought. But it's a very specialised market and most of the customers won't know a thing about R/c boats, equipment or prices. A 30"-36" boat made out of foam sheet with a suitable surplus Mabuchi/Pitman motor and cheap running gear should be easily built within a $100 budget + radio.

I would think no more then 25 inches in length should be long enough... but what's the foam sheet, would that be durable enough?

the foam can be covered with fiberglass making it very durable and pretty much unsinkable! :D

The foam sheet is the type for building insulation and I think sold at places like Home Depot in sheets of about 1.25" thick x 8' x 4'. Easy to cut and glue (special polystyrene compatible), strong enough on it's own, although it can be glassed with epoxy (not polyester).

What are you willing to pay for such to be built? That hasn't been brought up and should be brought up!!! Do we have to warranty our workmanship for x amount of time, if so the price goes UP! Not trying to be a smart=aleck but the lack of info on $-signs not shown, correct!

Lets See,...
$200 in material, $180 for a 3 channel radio... A week, or two of someones labor...
Wow, Dang, that's almost 35 cents an hour. :D
Plus any comp time for repairs for 3 years....

In the RCBM mag. a couple of years ago, a guy in the built a regular rc electric boat to hull his bait far enough out attached with a clothes pin on a wire which was strung the lenght of boat and when far enough out he pulled and hook and bait dropped off and boat came home. it was on the second to last page in the mag! I believe it was on the Colorado River!
