Playstation 5" LCD screen hood prototype

I just completed a mock up of a screen shade for the Sony Playstation LCD/TFT panel. Trying it outdoors it works very well in blocking out the ambient light. I will now make one from black poster board using black tape. Just thought I would share this for anyone that might be looking for a very cheap screen shade.

Nice and simple design... I will need to make one too, only since my screen is mounted in a tool box I will have to make it removable... maybe with velco was my thought...?

Crude but it works!! It does add some weight to your TX so using the neck strap is suggested.

The final hood will be attatched using velcro around the back of the monitor and I will put some black cloth at the base of the hood to stop stray light from getting in where the hood actually touches the monitor.

My idea is to hold the TX/Monitor up high and use one eye to look into the hood. keep the other eye open to follow the model plane and then just glance into the monitor from time to time to set up the AP shot.

Neat idea! :) You might look a bit strange holding up (to most people) a box with a small square attached to it, and a light shade attached to that. :p

Should work just fine though. Either you can do that or you can get a friend to be a spotter for you whilst you concentrate on looking at the video.

Mike - where did you get the monitor? Saw those on Ebay a while back, but am trying to avoid having to go to the US...

Adam, I succumbed to ebay (again) and it ended up costing me about $55 CDN by the time it got to Fort Macleod, which really is pretty good. Hood #2 is ready and I will post pictures tonight after supper :)

This one looks/works like a winner! Made from black poster board and some foam at the bottom of the hood to block out any light that comes from under the hood where it mates to the monitor surface. I will most likely just use some velcro to hold it in place or even a small rubber band. Oh, and I used some automotive vacuum hose around the opening at the top for a cushion effect!

Right now my set up is to view what the camera is seeing so that I can fire the shutter at the right moment but I do see the potential for from the cockpit flying.

You can certainly use the Nikon 3700 as your eye in the sky. It is actually quite simple and requires a wireless video transmitter that hooks to the video out on the Nikon. The signal is then sent to the ground to a receiver which can then be hooked to the Playstation monitor.

No problem.

Think about the FFF though. I picked up a Black widow system this week and am fumbling with a hood. You want something very Dark, and you want something that will not reflect light. FFF has that skin on it. I like the looks of the 99 cent flatt black posterboard.
