View Full Version : crackerbox/ourigger size for speed 600 & what prop

I'm a glider man, not at all a boating man (though 1:1 I do some sailing)

I have a bunch of speed 600 (mabuchi 550?) motors lying around, speed controls (with reverse) and 6 and 7 cell Nicads. I'd like to make a simple/fun outrigger with my young nephew using these propulsion systems. I think I'll do foam/glass epoxy or something similar.

I have three questions:

Should I go crackerbox or outrigger?

What size crackerbox/outrigger should I build for the 600 motors?

What prop to put on the speed 600 motors to get the most from them?

Thanks.

I'd avoid the outrigger as a first boat. They're easier to build but very critical when it comes to setting them up. I'd go for an "eco" type boat as a first go, say 40-45 cm long Esier to drive and they can be made self-righting when the inevitable happens.
For a prop, start with a Graupner 31 mm carbon fibre. You may find that it can take a bigger prop later, either a bigger diameter or a larger pitch (s) range.

Thanks, I'll get the prop and see if I can get something afloat. Still the outrigger is an intriguing idea to me. I can see they're not too simple to set up well.

Thanks again.
