It is "very loosely" based on the second series of Ticonderoga Class guided missle cruisers. The first series had the twin rapid fire missle launchers. However, like your model, the second series of Ticonderoga Class incorporated the vertical missle launching system on the bow and stern for the ship.

However, The Arliegh Burke class has that distinctive central uptake supersturcture.
but does not have the continious central deck structure that your model shows. It breaks behind the forward uptake. The Arliegh Burke class also has a wider forward bridge sturcture which incorporates the bridge wings and carries the that structure out to either side of the ship.

In my opinion you probably have a Ticonder-Burke class light cruiser.
But mostly Arliegh-Burke.

thanks umi, :)
the electronics are installed, with the motor and couplings ordered today, she should be on the water soon, so watch out for photos of her.
the number "80", i think refers to DDG 80, an Arleigh Burke class large multirole destroyers (Flight IIA) , (info from Hazegray.org).
the prototype AB class is however nicer looking!

well, with a few problems, like an overheating motor, she runs well, so the changes to be made are the replacement of the 3v/7.2v 380 with a 6v / 12v 385 5-pole motor, and the 35mm 3-blade propeller with a 30mm 3-blade.
also the funnel is going to get drilled in two locations, and maybe a PC fan installed, wired off the motor unit

Hey Uni,
looks like one of your 'targets'
Nice boat Ghost. Are you going to add any detail/functions to it?
Cheers

got some new phalanx guns coming along with some different antennas,
may re-do the mast at some point, but as regards a working turret, thats gonna require major surgery as the centre line at the bow has an inline bulkhead.
eventually it will have bollards and railings, and a rear helo hangar, the project has just started,

I recognize it. It is the USS HIBBARD.... A Semi-scale guided missile destroyer designed by Glynn Guest. It was a free plan presented by Model Boats Magazine, October 2002 issue. Just a freebie plan that came with the magazine. Nothing fancy or worth while. Cheap and simple to make though! I have a set of the plans... -James

well the new motor is in, and soon she will be on the water again to see just how well the motor runs, though the universal joints dont half growl!

well the mast i was talking about, this is what she looks like now, ive decided NOT to build the heli hangar. also she has a name now, USS Red Cloud, taken from a novel.
catches the wind a bit, but that is to be expected as she is a narrow beam hull.

when she is finished, with her gear, she is going to be a sort of modern corvette / coast guard type craft, rather than a burke class, I am thinking of an A-frame on the stern with a zodiac boat on it

Guess i found something a bit late though...
I'm searching for some similar class plastic models at 1:350 scale to convert them to rc...
Unfortunately most of the model companies have historical ships only...but i found a model from Dragon models...USS KIDD
The reason for posting is that while searching i found USS ROOSEVELT DDG-80 at 1:700 from Dragon models, which looks like your model and has the same number too...
If only they had it at 1:350 too :(

Cool!!
For anyone who built this beast, how hard was it to build?? And, if it's not too horribly hard, can someone scan and email me the plans?
I'd like to add a warship to the fleet, and I'm in the workroom planning process, so I'll have some room to play!!!

Zach, I have plans and the building article for it... but scanning the plans would be a huge problem for me. I have a copy of them if you'd like. PM me if interested. The model isn't very hard to make, as it is simple box style hull. Very simple model. -James

The guy who designed the USS Hibbard plan is Glynn Guest, the plan was in an issue of "model boats" magazine
