I am new to the hooby and I need someone to tell me what I need to start an inboard engine. I havn't bought one yet for the stupid reason of not knowing how to start it. I am debating buying the OPS .80 for a Dumas DV 60. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You'll need a starting belt, glow plug igniter, starter, and a battery for the starter. The starting belt stays in the boat; the engine flywheel is inside the the starting belt. The engine flywheel and starter have a groove for the belt to fit in, when starting the engine. The glow plug igniter is attached to the glow plug to start the engine. Your pit man, required by IMPBA & NAMBA at sanctioned events, takes care of starting and launching your boat. Here are pictures of a starting belt, glow igniter and starter.

Hello!

The OPS.80 - is good chose, this engine give stability and probably sure durability.

The any nitro engine in normal case needs an good and correct run-in.
For this step you need prepared assembled engine mount with engine, easy, clear water line (silicone tubing), 5% nitro fuel.
Some parts need too - maybe ... I recommend is Hobbico or Prather "After run oil" and clear bottle for cooling water.

In short time before first start, remove the glow plug, spray in 15-20 drops "After run oil" in plug hole and in the carb.
Now, necessary to rotate engine crankshaft with starter without plug, 5-10 second for oiling engines parts.
O.K.
Engine ready to first start, do it please, with helper. Put you model in water and hold it hard.
If you haven't ready to use cooling system on model, fix the bottle with water for some pressure of water stream.
Run the cooling water through the cooling system of engine, and look what water is run out from tubing are stably.

Setup the carb throttle on 1/4...1/3, start the engine ONLY on minimal stably RPM, under prop's load and run-in ~15 minutes.

Main idea of a marine engine run-in - is carefully start on first second his life.
Please, remember, engine without load on first start can be run over max. RPM and in short time can be destroyed.

Good luck, enjoy!
Sergey.

Great! I wouldn't know what to do without your help. My father is into planes so he will get me going. Thank you.
