Strip planking - options

I have been looking at options for strip planking for my mine hunter.

What is the difference between Birch, Ramin and Spruce?

Which is best for what application?

From my analysis, the birch sheets seem the cheapest (although you have to cut the strips yourself) at 50 1m x 6mm strips for $25.
Ramin is $7.40 for 15 900mm x 6mm strips but is more flexible that the spruce (although none of the packs were without broken pieces)

What do the experts say?

Ramin is a hardwood from Malasia i believe and is becoming extinc do to the black market of tree cutting. Its a good, but hard wood.

Birch's ease of use and at reasonable prices, have made it a great craftwood, for almost any woodworking project.

Spruce is a softer wood and more common among hobbiests along with ply and Birch.

For planking, it varies, I use Birch strips or ply strips- but been to use birch many times for some stress points.
