Can anyone point me to an inexpensive off-the-shelf transmitter/receiver modules that I can rig to transmit a switch closure? (i.e. receiver input goes high, transmitter output goes high)
Thanks in advance,

How about buying a FUTABA TRANSMITTER MODULE only and Matching Receiver....I was able to use this to transfer a TEXT files data from my HP200LX Plamtop computer to Desktop computer more than 500 meter away at 1200 BPS......been thinking using this in my telemtry project.
I guess, its an over-kill for your simple on-off project, but this is available off-the-shelve from a hobby store.

Garage door opener. Remote car alarm switch. They're all over the place. Unfortunately I only know suppliers in my part of the world.
BTW you have your receiver and transmitter the wrong way round. Transmitter has input, receiver has output ;).

www.rentron.com has a number of different RF and IR solutions with varying ranges. I have used their TWS-433 (I think) modules along with Holtec encoder/decoder ICs to make my own garage door remote. Their site also has lots of schematics and what-not.
Other manufacturers are Ming, RF Solutions (in the UK), and I know there are a ton of others that you could probably find with a Google search.
