I know this is a airplane foum, but I figured this is the best place for this question. I am into airboats. I have 3 nitro boats that I made and wanted to try my hand at an electric one. I built a 24x10 flat bottom airboat that wieghs 3.2lbs, RTR. It has a Traxxas XL-1 ESC, Traxxas 20 turn motor and 9x6 prop. Its not as fast as I would like. It does maybe 8-10 mph. I am looking for 20 mph or so. So what I need to know, it was motor/prop/ESC combo I need to get more thrust than I have now. I am thinking a no limit ESC with a 15-17 turn motor and 7-8 cells would cure my problem. But I wanted to check first. Anyone else have any experience with air boats?

Here is a few pics so you know what I am asking about.

If I were you, I'd ask another question about a suitable prop for the motor without mentioning it's for a boat. My limited plane knowledge makes me wonder whether it's too much prop for the motor, especially with direct drive. I think you may just get a recommendation to use something in the range of 2.5 -3:1 reduction with that rather warm if not hot car motor (about the same as a magnetic mayhem).
Bearing in mind that airscrew boats are usually faster for the same power than conventional boats, you should be capable of approaching 20 mph on your current set up.
