Hello all,
I am building this hovercraft from the plans at Mark Porters site( http://www.model-hovercraft.com ).
I should have thought about starting a build thread earlier, because I have the hull built already.
I am going to be putting an OS .40 LA on it and it should FLY!
Here are some pictures...
If you have any questions ask.

What materials are you using, doesn't look like the plywood called for in the plans. Is it lighter and less expensive than the 1/32 plywood? Can you notate diferences in your build that vary from the plan?
Thanks,
Bart

I am using Coropast(Corugated Plastic). It is commonly used for building RC airplanes.
I am not sure if it is lighter, but it is less expensive!
I am building it exactly as if I were using plywood as per the plans. To make sure that there is a good bond between the coroplast, I have glued wooden stir sticks to the edges of the bulkheads and sides.
To glue the stir sticks to the coroplast I used glue gun glue. To glue the hull together I used CA and then used more glue gun glue to seal any gaps.
W'ell time to get back to building.

im-sad,
First of all cheer up :-) I couldn't find your thread. Could you post a link?
Which templates? The squares on my template are 1cm squared.
Im going to use a 9x8 prop on an OS .40 LA.
In one of the links I've posted you can find a skirt calculator.
Im not really an expert on hovercraft. Everything I know, I have learned from the forum at http://www.rc-hovercrafts.com .

Oh ok,
Are you going to make it electric or glow? The squares on the template from Mark Porters site are 1cm square. However there are problems when you print that out!
Print this out! http://www.rc-hovercraft.co.uk/skirtpatt-4.pdf . This has the instructions and template to do it right. Good Luck.
BTW, you dont have to do any scaling for that link I provided!

Hi Looking good, the extra power from the glow engine should give you the forward power this design needs. What are you using for a lift ? I built an electric version of this Griffon see http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=345643&highlight=hovercraft+
Good luck

bgrunes,
I remember seeing your craft, it looks great! I am building my craft integrated, where the one motor is used for thrust and lift. The air is split by the splitter box and the plenum is filled by holes in the skirt.
I am having a problem using a cable to open and close the throttle right now and it is really ticking me off! Anyone have any ideas?

What % would you scale this down for a 400 Electric setup?
TIA!!!
im-sad
Jul 15, 2005, 07:51 AM
anythin new,
Try 50-25% smaller
andro000
Jul 15, 2005, 10:40 AM
how bout 50% smaller with 6mm coroplast?
im-sad
Jul 16, 2005, 07:26 AM
if you want 50 % then use a small BL motor like a cd rom motor, and if made of 6mm coroplast itl turn out pretty heavy, alternative= foam. or 3mm coro
