"Hanging" planes for storage

Gang,

I just completed building my Avistar (first glow plane) and look forward to the beginning of the flying season.

I would like to hang the completed model from the ceiling for storage. I believe I saw a hangar on towerhobbies... but I am wondering if there is a crafty solution. Also, is it safe to leave the wing strapped on (perhaps with only two elastics to reduce stress)?

I actually made a hanger very similar to the one thacherd posted using some coathanger, and putting fuel tubing over it. Also for an avistar.

Been workin beautifully..

If you have a strng enough hook in the cieling... and you don't mind it hanging there....

take off all the rubber bands.. loop string in thier place.. make a "bridle" to hang it by the wing hold-down dowels and loop that into the hook.

I sometimes hang smaller modls under a cieling fan... but the light kit... not by a fan blade (accidental switch on would be disaster if it was affixed to the fan blade...)

Depending on the model.. and your space... do what works. ;)

If you need them tight to the ceiling for headroom, need your wall space for other junk, and you have landing gear, this is actually pretty secure. Easy to store and remove. No hanger rash yet. Different size hooks work for both larger aluminum struts and wire gear. Also, you can store a bunch of wings in a small space with these rope slings and still have head clearance - if you're not too tall. They slip in and out easily enough.

Yeap, got it hangin' (when not flying or in transit to the field) for almost a year. Your description made me take the pics. :p

My planes hang from the ceiling with fishing line. The ceiling is made with acoustic tiles, so I tied a few lines into circles, looped them over the rails in the ceiling, then put the ends around the wing attach dowels and the wingtips for the wing. I'm only using 8# test line, so it's mostly invisible, so my planes look like they are just suspended in the air.

I hang all my electric planes from the basement ceiling using clothes hangers.
All my glow planes, I built a wing rack out of 1/2 inch pvc using elbows and tee's. The wings lay on the wing rack while the fuses are parked on the ping pong table.
