Several local flyers are planning a daytrip to Wilson Lake to tune up some planes and techniques on April 15th. I have heard Alvin is planning on spending several days camping there instead of just one day. Anyone interested is welcome. A couple of us don't really have much idea what we are doing, but have been foolish enough to enter the Midwest Slope Challenge to fly combat, race and have fun. So we have to go out just to figure out how to fly slope.

OK, a little clarification. I am the other flying Gaither brother, and our trip out to Wilson is scheduled for the weekend of the 23'rd of April. Right now we have about 5 fellow club members planning on going out for the weekend. I also think you might have us confused with the other. I founded the Flying Circuits, but Alvin has been a member from the beginning, and is at present our club saftey officer.

We did not know about your plans on going out to Wilson when we made our plans, or we could have done some co-ordinating. At this time our plans cant be changed without leaving someone out, due to other commitments. We will be camping at Sylvan Park, and welcome anyone who wants to come out to join us on the hill for some sloping, and join our get together at the campgrounds afterwards. Our hopes are to garner some interest in the KC area for sloping, for future trips out to Wilson.

Leonard,
I apologize for the mistakes. I've landed on my head too many times I guess. Mark Smith and I were talking, (he said talked to Alvin), and I thought he said that you and Alvin were going out on the 15th. Mark's schedule won't let him be there on the 23rd so our group will still be going on the 15th. My schedule is a little more flexible right now so I will try and make it out there on the 23rd as well.

Our motives are the same however, I am just trying to get some interest in slope flying and this thread was just another way to let people know we were going and to come along if they wanted.

hey Leonard, if you two are the flying Gaither brothers, does that make Wesley and I the flying Mayes brothers? I hope we have enough room for planes, so far we have 2 zagis, a bird of prey, a striker, a wally wing, my f-18 and tipsy to take with us. the bop looks cool in the air, and it bounces. my zagi is a reall floater, I feel lead weight coming on :)

later.

I guess it does, Jason......I dont think I'll have any room in the camper for any more planes, I am taking 12 total, and Danny will have at least three! We're gonna have to pitch a tent just for the planes to reside overnight!

Well, we survived the trip, and made it back home in one piece!

Great pictures - Looks like you had a good time. We will have to co-ordinate our trips better next time. Alden Shipp was talking about having some practice events this weekend, but it doesn't look like the winds are going to cooperate.

We moved our trip up a couple of days because the winds wern't going to be good for ours either. We ended up flying at a site called "The Cave", just North of Russell, with Jack Cooper of Leading Edge Gliders. I forgot my camera though.

It deffinately was a great trip even thought the winds didn't fully cooperate. I'm looking forward to the next one.
the winds on friday were scary at first, one of our group told us we needed more grey matter when Leonard asked if he thought he needed more lead in his plane. btw, an electrostreak makes a pretty good slope plane without the motor, and it's tough for a crunchy.
I'd like to take this time to thank all the farmers and local landowners that allow us the use of their land, without them we wouldn't have been able to fly when the winds are not favorable for the public hills. thank you.
