View Full Version : Safe voltages for Xmod cars

Hi,
I was thinking of adding an extra AAA battery or two in the roof space
in my xmod toyota. Out-of-the-box config is 4xAAA - any one tried
adding a little extra? Is it likely to give to much to the control
circuitry or does it have voltage limiters build in?
Cheers

This is a general response to your question. As I do not have a xmod.
I'm a micro rs4 fan.
The electronics used should have no problem running up to about 12 Volt, as
in general they are designed for it.
But as you add more power you will be pushing the motor a bit harder, which
in turn will heat up the mosfets more, and will be harder on the brushes
too. You'll love the speed!!
By running more amperage thru them. 2 batteries should be more than ok.
My car comes out of the box 4xAA, tired it once it was too slow, then went
to 8xAA.
Now I run 7.4 Volt LiPo's. (8.47 final voltage using self built charger)
8.3 is the cut off for many way too safe such as the Triton Charger.
Hope that helps.

THere were people on the various xmods forums running 9v and more,
although they weren't shooting for longevity.

around if you look.If you cant find any i might be able to dig up a
link.

Try googling for mosfet and you will find this (amongst other things)

Basically they are what control the flow of electricity to the motor.
If you up your voltage you will draw more power, or if you put in a larger
motor you will do the same.
You will be exceeding the limits of the stock mosfets, and will need to add
more to control the larger flow of electricity to the motor. Or you will
overheat the stock ones, and/or burn them out.
But for the 6cell that was being talked about you should be ok, but also at
the limit of the stock mosfets.

Here is a link to a mosfet project.(first link)This should also give
you some idea.He also explains the tamiya plasma dash motor.Tamiya
makes several dash and ultra series motors. They also can add more
speed.I am using a tamiya ultra torque in a canned heat mod of
mine. This mod had insane power. Its link is at the bottom of this post.
