I just purchased some used 368 servos that all make very loud screeching sound when put through the full range of movement. My new 368s are practically silent. I'm not talking about the high pitched noise that some digitals make at neutral.
I haven't used 368s in a plane before and my question is is there something likely wrong with the servos, or is this noise a natural occurance as the servo gets more use? I cant imagine with their cost that the noise is normal, but looking to those with experience for help.
Thanks

I have been using 368's since they first can out and I haven't noticed an increase in noise over the years.
How many used servos did you buy and are all of them making the same amount of noise as the new ones you have? Are they noisy when they are connected to the control surface or just moving free in your hand?
You might check the friction of the control surface and see if its stiff. A servo will groan more under high load.
I would say without knowing the details that if the servos are tight, powerful and you got a good price use them. If not then send them in to JR for a check up. They should fall into the 3 year warranty as long as they weren’t abused.

Thanks for the response Tom. I bought 4 used servos and the testing is on the bench so there's no load from surfaces. The new ones I have make the typical light noise throughout the range of motion. But the used ones make a really loud screech - they all make the same noise. I paid @ $41.00 each for these and would be happy if they sounded anything like a new servo. The servos must have come from a 4 servo wing as they all had the leads cut and replaced with new JR leads. If there';s much additional cost in having them worked on by JR, then I won't really benefit from buying the used servos in the first place.

So what's the verdict? Used them with no big problems?

Could the pots need cleaning? or perhaps the gears are dirty/need lubricating?
Just guessing but may be worth looking at.
