Just to add to the confusion:
Both, old style serial port, and all-time parallel ports have 25 pins, only the COM port used to be male and the parralel port is a female connector on the motherboard side.

As stated already, but here is the list.

parallel - 25 pin - Female

Com Port - 25 and/or 9 pin - Male

Game Port - 15 pin - Female
