Ship question...
Have a 12V, 1A smoke generator in a ship. Would like to get full 12V to smoke unit whenever the ESC is running the motor fwd or reverse. Can I tap off a low current signal from the ESC and use a small, simple circuit to trigger the 12V?
Nothing fancy - just a few components on a small board.
Thanks,
Dan

decode the signal with pic, have the pic then switch 12 v rated relay or mosfet,
will take a bit to get the positions u want to activate at, lil bit of tinkering, but yes it can easily be done,
12c508 might be the right pic, prolly run at ro near 20 mhz, direct jump off esc's white lead from reciever conection, to input pin on pic, pulsin that pin, store in var , use logic to determine, if x = foward then do this etc
board will be aprox 1 x 1 , containing relay or mosfet, chip, leads, few resistors, some sort of resanator / xtal

power off servo pack,

Dirt cheap method: Connect a bridge rectifier (4-diodes in a single package) to the existing ESC controlled brushed motor. On the DC output of the bridge, connect a 100uF/16V electrolytic cap and a highly sensitive 6V relay (something with coil resistance of at least 400 ohms). The relay will not turn on until you have partial FWD or REV throttle.

The 6V relay is not expected to be damaged by the 12V source. The voltage drop through the bridge, and the motor voltage under load, will present about ~9V to it. That can be tolerated since most relays will accept 150% over voltage.

nice thinking, since ship most likly means water craft,, it wouldnt have electronic brake or any thing just reverse,
