After seeing all the incredible things that are being done with pic chips on this board, I have been thinking about getting into it. How difficult is this to learn, and what is the best way to get started? Any advice for a noob?

assembly makes it meanecing to grasp the concept,

pic is pretty simple, learn about 35 terms, basic electricity, buy a bundle pack mplab or similar, PROGRAMMER *
then get pic basic, if u ever programed an apple IIe u should grasp it easily ( basic programing COMPILER for pic)
pick a chip, pic 16f628 suggested here great starter, cheeper then 16f84 i believe
i use micro code studio, pic basic manual , and generic programmer and icprog found free online , as with tutorials,

pic basic really bridged the gap for me, and got em understanding assembly though i still dont program in it,
estamated cost

programer:
if u buy a generic one meant for a couple of chips , and assemble it yer self and use ic prog , and design projects around these chips 35
if you buy a great lil package , 150, programs multiple chips easy setup,
pic basic and other stuff, i think microcode si free for education, and pic compiler is a couple hundred for a pack , ,
bundle pack, 150 - 250
