Ok Everyone I have an idea and I want to know what everyone thinks, most of us dont like to build we like to fly! so I have come up with a great idea that might turn into something,
Im working with my brother to start a service, where we will pre build any kit GWS has for sale to about 95% rtf th eonly things we wont do is install radio gear/decals and put on the landing gear, otherwise we will build any kit that gws has to offer for a price between $25-$50 depending on the kit! and ship it out to you for Just $15.00
then all you have to do is install your gear charge the packs and fly!
A basic build would be example any GWS kit like the tigermoth,picostick,dhcbeaver,pico-j3-cub would be the $25.00
all planes like warbirds,formosa,tigermoth400 would be the $50.00 price
we might do custom paint jobs later, but for now we just want to offer the building of kits to cutomers who would rather fly then build!
please post your input
Or PM me for more details!
Thanks!

Good idea - reasonable price for the time involved - but to me, building the kits and deciding what mods to incorporate is part of the hobby.
Also, there are lots of RTFs on the market now that would be in the price range of your total price so you have some stiff competition.
The upside is, for someone who has no interest in building or modding a GWS ARF - your service seems to be a good option.
What are your prices on the kits themselves? - the total price is what people will look at when considering this.
Will you assemble the sloper versions?

Im a field rep for GWS in Ca so I can build any kit GWS has in there product line, the basic kits are for sale to from my site www.sdparkflyers.com or you can order the same in the pre built version!
Lets say you wanted to buy a GWS Corsair Slope version so you can install all your own gear I can do that also I would then just include the motor mount uninstalled and let you go with the power plant of your choice.

It won't work. You'll never sell them, not a one. You'll want to fly them instead. I know addiction when I see it.
But, it's a good line for me to use on the wife...

I think it's a good idea. I personally wouldn't buy it only because I would rather build it myself, I know a couple of guys that HATE building, so this would appeal to them.

Well here is the way I look at it, we live in a busy world and if one of us who is a parent wants to buy a kit and get his kid away from the video games for a moment, buys one well it will be a great tool!

Keep the cost much less than the Alfa/Flying Styro birds and you should do ok.

Thanks Joe!
Well I have built and flown just about every GWS Plane I could over the last couple of years and have many more I want to build, so Im trying to turn my love for GWS into a way to make a little money and also get more kits out to the people who would rather fly then build
this way there is real no tools required besides maybe a little screw driver and a hobby knife. to finish the kit the way i build it.
and for those who dont want to do anything I also offer a flight pack from my site now and if you buy it all i will build it all for Just $40.00
so you cant beat that with a stick!

Not to sink your battleship but go and look at any LHS. You will find that
some guys put up ads around the store stating the same exact thing you
are doing. Seen it a thousand times. Basically old retired guys making some
extra bucks.
Problem is differentiating your builds vs theirs.
Just letting you know your competition,

don't let it bring you down
you may not get as many builds as you hoped for because so many of use build for ourselves as well as others
but who knows?
your in california and there's lots of flyers there
i build alot
currently have 8 planes in progress for people + 4 for myself
thing is, i'd be busier if it wasn't for the Canada/US border headaches
up here we like to build our own planes more than get them RTF
i noticed getting most of the inquirys to build came from the US
there is room for another builder down there
give it a shot
who knows?
if your real good at it, you will do well
just get well known by the hobby shops and they will refere you to customers that want RTF planes

I just sent out another plane I built yesterday! I have been doing like 1 a week for the last couple of months! I try and build just GWS stuff because I have built and flown so many myself! I dont let stuff get me down I know there is a need for it and since the GWS kits cost around $50 dollars less then kits made buy other manufactures like alfa and come with motors and stuff I think what I offer a customer is steal a great deal, I know its not for everyone but as I said before there are alot of people that would rather fly then build and thats where I step in!
Another way to look at it is this and people dont think about this stuff!
open up your average GWS kit can you just build it righ tout of the box with your hands NO!
you have to buy tools, epoxy, sandpaper, maybe even paint and then paint brushes there is the time factor the average kit will take a builder 6 hours to do and that is for a person who has the basic building skills to put a kit together.
thats why I offer my service.
some people dont even have a place to build kits! there is a lot to think about..

May avail myself of your services sometime in the future. Am interested in, eventually, getting a GWS Beaver, but don't think I want to try and build one as one of my first planes. Right now I just have a Cosmic Flyer that I haven't yet tried to fly.
Got a couple of GWS questions you might be able to answer:
1. Pics I've seen show registration numbers. Is that just a single decal or can you do whatever number you want?
2. How is the handling? I see GWSExpert lists it in it's Beginners Best Choice section, would you consider it a good first plane? (And yes, I know that everyone recommends the SS, for the kind of money I'd be spending for any plane I would want something that looks more like a plane.)
3. I've noticed pics of some GWS Beavers that are not in the normal color/decal scheme. If and when I do get a Beaver, I probably will want to paint it in a specific color scheme. Would that affect things like CoG? Would you I need to use regular model kit paints for that or what kind of paints would work?
Won't be buying any planes for a while because I just don't have the extra cash, but it is something I am looking in to.
One last question just occured to me: Do you know if the GWS Cub works well with the GWS Floats?
tallflyer

The GWS Piper-j3-cib is a IPS power planes and is one of the best trainers dollar for dollar, the Beaver uses the 350 motor and is a lot faster then the pico-J3-Cub, the Beaver has the slots built into it to mount the Floats, both kits are great for the first time builder and can be put together in about 6 hours. they both use only elevators/rudder and throttle. both planes can be flown slow enough that a new pilot can learn faster, I love the fact that with a little wind you can allmost hover right in place.
Either one will make a great first plane!

i have and built both cub and beaver
don't bother putting floats on the cub
motor is too small
the beaver is made for it
"1. Pics I've seen show registration numbers. Is that just a single decal or can you do whatever number you want?"
the numbers are all in one decal

The Registration numbers are all one decal if you want to cut them up and make your own you could.
