Gang,

I borrowed an old copy of RealFlight Classic v1.20.71 from a friend (with the interface). I am attempting to install this on my Gateway 600YR laptop (ATI Radeon Mobility 7 video card). I've installed the latest DirectX package from microsoft (v9) and I still can't get the sim to run. I get an error message that says:

"One or more parameters passed to the function are incorrect.
L:/kelib/DirectDraw/DXDirectInput.cpp
Line: 649"

Then I get a joystick error.

When I run DXDiag, I get lots of "old version" warnings (even though I installed the latest from the Microsoft website).

Yet, when I run the DX test utilities, most work just fine - even the joystick utility (running through a gameport-to-USB interface)

The RealFlight website says that some laptops aren't designed to run "game" applications... and this could be the trouble. But, I'm sure someone has figured out what to do.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Have you tried updating your sound card drivers? If you are doing anything with a gameport chances are your sound card will be involved.

Sorry I just read your post again .. the controller uses a gameport connection which is then connected to your USB port via the adapter ?

Might be worth still updating your sound card drivers?

Thanks for the suggestion, Nemo.

Actually, I just got it working. I went to the RealFlight website and downloaded the software update for 1.20.71. Now, it works perfectly. It was a joystick (controller) problem. Apparently, the DXDiag messages regarding "old" file version warnings are irrelevant.

Hope this helps someone searching the archives later!
