A big congrats goes out to Mickey for winning the technical award at this years autogyro flyin over Spring Hill!

Sorry I could not make it this year to shake your hand and congradulate you personally, Mickey! It sure looked like a lot of fun! I requested the days off six months ago! My boss is such a jerk!

You really deserve a big plaque for all the help you are giving to everyone around here! I really enjoy reading your posts!

Thanks!

John

Thanks!
It was very flattering to be rewarded for all the R&D I put in. Other than my friend Mark's (also at Spring hill) Spin Doctor, I'd never seen any other gyrocopters fly, so I didn't really know how I was doing with mine. Turns
out I must be doin' pretty good.
BTW the spin doctor is a very good beginner model once you correct one
design flaw. The plans call for 6 degrees of incidence, it really needs 15.
Once you do that it flies just fine. Mark flew his many times friday with no
problems at all.
I guess I'm really gonna have to kit that G3PO now...
Also I'm working to put up some in flight video I shot Friday, including on board video of a loop. Will post when I have it up..
Thanks again
Mickey
P.S. I'm pestering Jim to have a fly-in in lakeland on a WEEKEND..

Thanks Don.
Maybe we can get gyrocopters into the main stream.
I think it's a lot like helicopters in the beginning, you had
to be VERY dedicated to get one to fly and there were
no instructors. If there are enough gyros out there and
enough people with experience then it will reach critical
mass and gyrocopters will become as common as helicopters.
The challenge has been a plan/kit that a dedicated individual
can get to fly by themselves.....Hopefully I'm getting close
to that.

When I started my gyro project, that was my intention as well. I am very close to getting mine flying right. I am putting more down trust in the motor, as 5 degrees does not appear to be enough. I will change the final firewall in autocad when I have it set to the proper incedence. The model was put into autocad from the beginning, so tweeking the plans is no problem. The county just paved the road out front of where I live. I have a nice new runway! I will try some short hops to try the new down thrust. It's way too big to hand launch. 62" rotor has got to be ROGed. It was doing fine in the grass runway where I fly. Just wants to nose up.

I'll keep you posted.

Everybody at Spring Hill I congratulate you. Looked a bit damp out there. All the Models looked nice. Congrats Mickey, on your reward. I have not had time to rebuild mine. It needs to be put on a diet from all the epoxys, they're like sugar. Looks like there are starting to be more interested pilots here lately, stay persistent and don't give up. I learned quite of bit of patience with my G3P0, and a lot of ROG, ToG.
