Hi Hans,
Just woke up so if this doesn't make sense I'll re-write it later LOL
Elevons travel the the full "Throw" of the servo, if you want to set an end point of travel, you do that on the computer Transmitter. You can also set the "Throws" with Dual rates, larger throws for for slow flight, shorter throws for fast flight. You have to experement with throw distances to find what your comfortable with for your flight at the time.

Good Morning Tom,
I think of the difference in move, between ailerons and tailerons,
to get the same result in flight.
If you can compare your experiences for the F-22 (aileron move and
taileron move), your result will be helpful for me.
:) ... you can get your breakfast first, because we have our dinner in a few minutes. LOL !

Hi Hans-Joachim,
I've never had Alerons on my F-22, just the Elevons (the picture was someone elses jet) My Elevons move about 1 inch up and down, but that is because of the size of the short servo arms (about 1 inch long) I'm using, then anything else. I fly the F-22 pretty slow on the stock brushed motor, so the set-up is adequate for my needs.
About the only difference that I've noticed between the aleron/elevator jets and the Elevon jets, is the roll of the plane. Elevons tend to push the tail end of the jet around, so in some cases, rolls look more like corkscrews or barrel rolls, where as a aleron roll is smoother.
This might help This is a video of a Wattage F-22 Raptor (not mine) that shows the elevon movements better

Hope you enjoyed your dinner :)

Thank you Tom,

Iīll go with 1 inc move.
My wife has brought the dinner to me.
Iīve just finished the cross - sections on the F-14 :)
Yes I know, I should start a new thead for the F-14.
I think itīs better to finish her first and if she push her beautyful tail
like she should, then I would .. :)
To start with the F-14 was more a joke, because Carl (MichNet76)
was talking about future projects some days ago and Iīve played
a little bit with my cad software because the F-14 is our all time favourite. :)

There will be a flat plate between the two blue lines
in the sideview to mount the tailerons and to get to body form.
The cross sections are only for me to get the right form of the body.

Looks like, I have to wait some more time for the mega-minifan ESC :(
F-16C, No.2 is still waiting for the "swinging", too :)
This evening it was cloudy, but there was no wind.
So Iīve taken F-16C, No.1 and was flying her 3 pack-times,
most at 1/2 trottle around my nose.
Unbelievably for me, how slow these birds can fly without getting
a streaming cut! Slow motion in real time!

Yes I understand,
two F-18 in the air at the same time is much more fun
than one F-16 on the ground.
My son has to learn a little bit more.
But I beleave, there will be two F-16 in formation flight this year. :)

Well guys... I am getting there. I was hoping to have her to maiden standard by tomorrow so I could give it a maiden but I've had too much on my plate to invest the appropriate hours into finishing her off. Been a fine project so far so not worth ruining it by doing a quick and rough job to get it airworthy.
To date I have completely covered the bottom with So-Lite solarfilm (white), has turned out okay, well for a first attempt it's ok anyway! Then stuck on the fin and side skirtings then cut off the old profile canopy and carved out a new one. I've had to hack a bigger hole in the fuse to get the new canopy to sit properly but made a bit of a mess... oh well a bit of balsa and putty and she'll be right! LOL! Beauty of covering with film is that it hides a lot of the building imperfections LOL!
Anyway on to the pics:

Carl,
She looks Great!
... and Fast!
"Please, one video from the maiden flight !!"
Iīve got a E-flite 20-Amp Brushless Speed Control for the
mega 16/7/5 and the wemotec minifan 480, with 3s1p 1550
~ 21 Amp. It works.
Iīve used F-16C, No.2.
It was windy today, but we were flying.
The thrust wasnīt good enough for me. I think, I have to optimize
the in-and outlet,
but Iīve offered Jan-Henrik, that he is the new owner of F-16C, No.2
when the speed 400, 7.2V is back in her body and Iīll do so.
What do you think about, putting
the 16/7/5 and the minifan in a profil F-14?
should have ~ 500g thrust
or the 16/15/2 with 3s3p tanic 1550 in a depron F-14?
but, letīs talk about a F-14 thread after F-16XL maiden.

Hi Adriel,
go on,
I hope to see some more pictures from your growing up F-16.
If she is around 440 - 470g, you can use a speed 400, 7.2V,
GWS7035prop on 11.1V like F-16C, No.2.
Thatīs more fun than a mega 16/7/5 on 3s1p with wemotech 480 minifan.

Hey Carl, ... no Stearman ... but,
my 4. Lipo-Pack today was in the Pitts Special, Iīve started two days ago.
Pitts Special.
Maiden Flight!
87 cm ws,
360g rtf (without Barbie) with
3s1p 1550 Tanic,
8x6 slimprop,
typhoon 6/24
The Pitts wouldnīt roll to the right at > 1/3 trottle !
so I mostly went left :D

geee... has anyone told you you're a genius Hans? Apart from that twisted wing it looks to be a nice flyer! Wish I could just knock up a plane and have it fly just like that! LOL!
Perhaps some fishing line nylon bracing might help keep the wings from flexing like that.

Hi Carl,
Iīve used nylon to get no flexing
and turned the side rudder a little bit to the right
( Looks like 6° right ! and 3° down for the motor).

If you're refering to my balsa XL, then see above... hoping to work a little more on it tonight, I sat down and looked at the canopy situation (trying to get a nice fit between canopy and fuse and a method to secure it) during my lunch break and have come up with something to try, so I started the process then and will complete it tonight, hopefully it'll work out! If it does I'll explain more incase anyone else gets into the same situation.

Carl,
Itīs a shame, I still use "tape" to fasten the canopy. One pack (role) till now.
I have to open the canopy after every flight.
52 days. 26 flight-days 3 flights per day = 78 flights. :)
Hey, more than 6,5 hours flighttime on F-16 !

Hans = Yep tape is my best friend too! Got all sorts in my kit bag, electrical, masking, cello, cloth etc... oh yeah and a healthy amount of CA and epoxy! LOL!
I was hoping for a more permanent (and nicer looking) solution for my balsa built canopy.
I've setup up my 'idea' for getting a nice fit for the canopy, the glue is drying as I write so with any luck I might get to tidy it up tonight as well.
My digital cameras' broke as well. (bugger) the lens has snapped off so to take photos I have to hold the lens to the camera body but the focus is out of wack!!! Doh, That camera cost me $1200 AUD's too!

Yeah $1200, mind you that was nearly 5 years ago when 2 megapixel was the greatest! I brought it cause of it's very nice CCD, even compared to alot of new mid range cameras it's far superior - I'm talking from a graphic prepress's photo compositor's point of view for reproduction purposes... anyway enough of that.
The glue has dried and I got jiggy with the blade, file and sandpaper and my theory has served me well... Photo's...

As you can see, a very nice snug fit between the canopy and fuse now! It has also strengthene'd the cockpit area significantly!
Basically as you can probably tell from the photo's, I layered a sheet of 2.5mm balsa over the whole cockpit area and liberally applied balsa glue then cut it out to shape, giving me a nice flat surface to pop the canopy on and a nice clean straight edge to the fuse. Bit of lightweight filler and we're done! Nice!

Apr 12, 2005, 10:03 AM
yeah if you read through the earlier threads I've already thrown the idea around for going gas. See what happens come maiden day though. I've set it up so the motor is mounted in a GWS style gearbox housing so if need be I can play with gearing if I need more horses. But the motor combo I'll be using really hurled around my dodgy 950g corflute version nice and fast so I'm hoping it'll do the same with this balsa version!

Hans hows the f 14. Debateing on whos to biuld. Jetsets or yours...........
I donīt want to go with swing wings. (Iīve only a 4 ch. TX)
I want to build the F-14 as light as possible with tailerons.
Let us wait until Carlīs and your F-16 is flying
and do a "joint venture" if you want.
Everybody is waiting for Jetset44īs F-14,
I think it doesnīt look good
to start a F-14 thread at this time.
This thread here is 7 weeks old and
started some hours after F-16C maiden.
Itīs my contribution to this great forum,
but I havenīt seen anyone else flying this F-16C till now.
This F-16 who is a realy great parkflyer,
stabil in windy conditions, ~ 440 g light with 73 cm ws,
easy to fly, at slow and fast speed,
but it looks like nobody is realy hot to build it.
To design, to build is fun for me.
Iīm glad that I have found a way to built this F-16 and got
a cheap and cool ParkFlyer for me and my son.
With this bird, more than 80 flights till now, I have learned aileron flying.
And this F-16 is still in one piece!

Hi Hans-Joachim
I just wanted to point out that there may be many copies of your F-16 flying around, but some people never talk about them. If you look at the first set of plans they average over 325 downloads. the second set of files are at about half that. and the XL wing is sitting at 128 now. So people are looking at the very least. The E-zone gets a lot of visitors that never sign-up, so they can't post. Plus when the New pusher-prop jet section was started, I posted your plans in there too, that thread is a "Sticky" at the top of the index page, go take a look at how many times those has been downloaded.
So there may not be a lot of people posting in the thread, but I'm sure there are a bunch of your jets flying around the world :)

Very well put RCParkFlyer... I don't post very often on other project threads but I certainly search through the forums to find ideas and information, these forums are an extremely valuable asset. Hense why I like to explain things as much as I can (like the cockpit situation above), may be a bit longwinded for short conversation but you never know who might be searching around for information such as that. No sense in re-inventing the wheel a million times!

From personal experience in connection with my Flanker I can definitely agree with RCParkflyer. For instance, I know of two Flankers that never appeared in ezone. Given the popularity of your thread I've little doubt others are building & flying Vipers based on your plans.
Your inventiveness and willingness to share your cool bird is a BIG asset to this community. Don't be discouraged, Hans-Joachim! If your Tomcat is not to be, then surely you have another design in your head that we could all be inspired by!!

Thank you Tom, Carl and Thomas.
It was a statement about the F-14 design.
Iīve written, what Iīve read in some other threads before.
When I started this thread, I said to myself, what ever happens,
donīt write words that sounds like this.
Hey Tom, the F-16 design you have posted into the sticky is the 50 cm (19,7 inc) wingspan, 420g (14,8 oz) design with mixed taileron controls from Stefan Lamers.
A awesome design, but different to 73 cm (28,7 inc) wingspan, 440g (15,5 oz) with aileron and elevator. I think itīs not good to place my plans into this sticky,
because if someone will build the F-16C, the pictures from the online build and the comments are important to finish her. Otherwise I have to do a building instruction and
more details to the plans. :o
Thank you for your friendly words Tom, Carl and Thomas !
Iīm flying for my own, not in a club.
LOL, This forum is my club ! :)
Greetings and happy flying

Hans , you know whats weird.. lots of guys will say "where are the plans"?? but when they get them they dont make it. :) :P too bad tho.

OK, Iīll go on designing the F-14 and post the next results this weekend.
Itīs still different in construction, maybe interesting to see.

Hi,
I think, what I really neat is a picture from you and your rtf F-16C.
So I can hang it on my wall and say:
" Look, this is Adriel from Indonesia.
The first man on earth using
my design and this is his F-16C ! " :)

Shure, the pictures has to be taken rtf before maiden flight. :)
BL isnīt everything. Have you seen the video from
the F-16C, No.2 with the speed 400
and the black 7x3.5 gws prop on 11.1 V.

By the way,
Iīve got my self made lipo-pack back.
Silver-Lot has to be used to get the right connection.
Iīve done one flight with the Pitts Special, now with full house.
Rudder control is important for this bird. Only one flight
because there were gusts of wind.
But Iīve done 3 flight with my F-16.
Iīll count from now on every flight, because of the "electric fallout" yesterday. [ 84 ]

Sorry Hans-Joachim,
When I was posting the plans for the sticky, all I had listed was F-16, I just assumed they were yours. If you'd like I could post your plans with a link to this thread so everyone interested can download and then read the thread to see your building the jet.
I won't do anything till you give the word.

The green F-15E (Iīve built together with my son as a glider) is
living on the other side of our street. Her new owner is called
Felix and got her as a present to his 6. birthday some weeks ago.
The gray F-15E is still beside me.
At the time, Iīve built her, I was really a beginner on ailerons.
She was a little bit hot for me. (Typhoon 15/13 and ~580 g)
So Iīve build a new (3.) F-15 with RTF ~340-360g on 2s1p,
Typhoon 6/20, 8x6 slimprop.
I still use her for my 2s1p kokam 1500 lipo pack.

3s1p. Thust/Weight >/= 1/1
Iīve designed her (Itīs jetset44īs design x1,39 and some little modifications to save weight)
for the mission as a school-bird for my son.
She isnīt so quick on the sticks, no jet-like speed, but
a good school bird. (she is still in one piece!)

Your plans have been posted in the pusher jet sticky. With links back to this thread, I also put in links for pilot photo (and a picture) and the F-16 Thunderbird decals. Last, but not least, I added the XL wing PDF too.
LOL by the time I get done I'll have a whole fleet of F-16's.
I have a flying Styro Microfan kit
the Ultrafly Kit
the Fiberglass kit
and This F-16C Falcon plans
and finally Thomas Nelsons F-16 Minifan plans W/Micro-Retracts
out of 5 maybe I can get a few to fly
Thanks to everyone!!

Oh Tom,
thank you, ... Iīm smiling, too in this moment!
13 years ago, my wife and me have done a long
journey around the west of the states.
If some day a man, with one wife and two kids are staying in front
of you ( with a camper on the dusty road), and the man ask for a beer,
maybe itīs me!
Hans-Joachim
PS: Iīll hope two F-16īs are rtf at this time ! :)
Sorry three F-16, because Jan-Henrik will be able to fly this bird,
maybe better than we do or can.
So itīs good, you build a few of this great birds

itīs surely a great idea to have different kinds of F-16īs.

I worked at a brewery for 25 years, but now I am disabled (bad legs) so I should have quite a few jets built this year, and into the future (where I'm going to keep them is another matter LOL, just one small bedroom now) I a few years, I hope to have my grandson flying too :) but that is a way off yet as he is only 3 now.

Hey don't forget the XL!! It may be a slight modification of the wing and made out of different materials but it's certainly based on your design! Specially the fuse! (granted I added an extra rib or two and made my own rear fuse ribs cause your plans at the time didn't have any!) But in essence it's a re-incarnation of your depron F-16C!! :D :D :p

yeah I'm feeling pretty rundown tonight, just watched an hour of simpsons and something about raymond or whatever... watching TV makes me feel pretty ordinary afterwards at the best of times, I hate having to sit still for so long!! My favourite viewing is sitting down to a documentary DVD or the likes and working on a model!! Just finished watching Discovery channel's F-16 and F-14 doco's, pretty cool stuff! Got their SR-71 DVD sitting there to watch at some stage too... then there's always the pentagon channel if there's nothing else to watch, but that gets boring if you keep watching it every night as they just repeat stuff so I only visit it every couple of weeks in which time they've usually updated the content!
I gotta go to Adelaide (state capital city) tomorrow, not sure how that's going to go (3 hours drive east)... dose myself up on ibrufen and caffiene!! Planning to visit some hobby shops on saturday morning so I'll see what goodies I can find... last visit I walked out with a GWS B-2 for under half price! Plus I should grab another roll of white So-Lite film just incase I run out whilst doing the top of the XL - nothing worse then running out of something and you know you can't get ahold of it for a while!!! Might also have to have a harder look and see if anyone's got any depron or equivalent product in yet!!
Anyway I've dribbled enough for one post... I'm off to bed! (D'OH! it's only 9pm)
