Hi All
I am planning on flying this Ultryfly Hawk for the first time and I need some advice.
Power will come from an 8 cell NiCad pack
Park400 brushless with Zagi propeller
Phoenix 10 controler

How do I launch this guy?
Is it squirly to hand launch?
Lauch in a dead sprint?
Here are the pics

Pushers tend to torque roll w/the prop so a level slightly banked toss counter to torque roll should be enough to get your hand to the stick as it rolls level. It looks nice! Nice paint~!

Firstly there is already a Ultrafly hawk thread with lots of info on it so you should check it out. I bought this plane and tried it sometime ago. In my opinion you should not try it with current setup. This plane has a relatively high wing loading and will require decent speed and thrust and you will not get it under 10 amps as your choice of ESC suggests. Actually I am not sure if you are planning to fly is direct drive or geared. You are probably better off trying it either with stock setup or brushless setup than DD sp400 with zagi prop since that will make it hard to fly and lunch.

Once again based on my experience this is not exactly the most easy to launch plane. Many people have had problems with flying this and many have had good results. You are better off reading the thread before your first flight. Also for the stock setup you will either need a 10 cell or 3s lipo setup or bigger prop.

Yeah Park400 good, but you need 25a controller. I dont know about the prop. You shouldnt need to gear down a Park400.

Do you launch with a little power on or full power?

Well I flew this Hawk for the first time today and all I can say is WOW!
I changed to the recommended 25a Brushless controller
I kept the park 400 and Zagi prop
I flew it with 2 Etec 3 cell's in parralel
When you slam full throttle on this sucker it noses straight up with thrust.
It is as fast or faster than my ZAGI TAZZ. I was totaly amazed. Thanks to all with helpfull suggestions. I attribute the success of this model to the good people in this forum. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Nice camo Madguns- I still have one of these in a box, plan to use 3s Irate 2600's Mega 4 turn, 6x4 APC E prop, but want to bungee it up. Did you chuck yours, or bungee?

It sounds like a fun machine, will have to put it together soon... :)

Thanks Bipeflyer!

I chucked mine. I was pretty nervous about it but it turned out ok. I would recommend with such a high power set up and direct drive that you dont have the throttle set to high when you launch it. I gave it a pretty good heave and it was at full throttle. I was surprised that it went vertical out of my hand! I just limit the throttle to 2/3 now with a good chuck. The high speed performance is just amazing. Its landing speed is slow and stable and surprisingly very predictable.

I made a mix of west systems light weight filler and future floor polish for the surfacer of the model and it worked out very nice. I just painted the whole model with a 3 inch brush and let it dry for 4 days. After it was nice and crusty I sanded it smooth with 300 grit. After that I airbrushed tamiya acrylic paints on it. Next time I would like to cover a foam model in heatshrink covering like the formosa they did in model airplane news.

This weekend I will post some flight pics. ;)

I know it isnt scale but I got a little inspired by the RAF P-40 warhawks. I might even add some 20mm cannons to the wing roots.
Besides this thing is just too dang fast to not have a mouth painted on :D
