Ok well I dont know anything about RC cars/planes/boats. So can you please tell me what I need to make my 32cc weed wacker engine be remote controlled. I dont want it to fit in a plane or anything just tell me what I need and how to do it. Its for a super secret project that I will difently post pics once its done. I need to knnow everything from the controller to receiver and servos and what not.

Also, can I control a second servos with the same control at the same time, since I only want the engine to speed up and slow down, but need this second function to work at the same time. I know I can use a servo for it so....

Well Ive probably confused you. But just give me a list of everything I need to control a weed wacker engine with a remote control and also can I control a second servos with same control at same time.

Thank you in advance.

Edit: I searched yahoo and cant find anything, only the more advanced versions that assume you already know about RC. Well I dont :)

Also I dont want an onboard started, I just want to pull the cord and have it turn on then I can use the control to adjust the RPMs.

One last thing is it possible to have the engine on but without the my secrect project moving?

If you are just looking to control the throttle on an engine just get a 2 channel car radio with 2 servos. The throttle stick (left stick) on a car radio is spring loaded so it always returns to neutral. On a airplane/helicopter radio the throttle stick will stay in the position you leave it in. Without knowing the project I can't say which is more appropriate. If you get an airplane radio don't operate it near any local flying fields. You can get a Y-adapter to connect the two servos together. Or, you can even get a computer radio and mix 2 channels into one. You may have to modify the spring mechanism on the throttle as it may be too hard for a servo to pull/push. I hope this helps.

You can install a manual clutch. Where you'd get one I have no idea. However, a centrifugal clutch from a weed wacker will allow you to at least start the engine and run it at a very low speed without the "Secret Project" moving until you advance the throttle.

It's VERY IMPORTANT to know what will you use the radio for if you live in the US. If it's an aircraft model you should get a 72MHz radio system - transmitter an receiver (or 50MHz if you're a ham radio operator), otherwise you must get it in the 75MHz band.

Let's see it doesn't fit in a plane or anything......Why would it need to be radio controled? You would still have to HOLD it?

Do you have your parent's permission to do this?
Yeah, I'll watch for it on America's funniest home videos :D

Ok well its gonna be on a boat, but the boat people are no help but thats all I can say. I found a weedwahcker that goes neutral and disengages when the trigger isnt being pulled, so I was thinking of just having the servo pushing against the trigger, simple enough. I'm still not sure cause thats an expensive weed weedwacker to break. I am getting a 4-channel 75mhz controller with 4 servos, I'm going to replace one with a powerful one that can pull on the throttle line. I think that will work, what about you. O yea this will be more than a boat.

I live in hong kong by the way so there arent many regulations that are enforced.

It sounds like it already has a centrifugal clutch.

I've moved this thread from Fuel Plane Talk to here. I think it is more appropriate in the Boat forum.

gamingguy87,
What you are trying to do isn't unusual (controling an IC engine by R/C). You may have a few misconceptions on how that's done, though. The 'best' advice might be for you to do a bunch of looking and reading in the approriate forum sections. See how throttle servos, etc. are used (and where), and so on. The typical 'weedwhacker' only contributes the motor (and maybe the clutch) to a boat project. All the 'rest' of the stuff is usually discarded, you just don't need it (throttle assembly, etc.). What you can/can't use really just depends on your particular application, what you have available to you, and how much money you want to throw at it. No one can be very specific about recomending something without knowing more of what you intend to do, and with what.
This isn't much, but I hope it helps...

Maybe looking at how it is done will help?

Well I want to controll a boat with it that can go forward and stop without stalling. I have the rudder and everything else figured out. I just am unsure still, since looking at that sight still seems like a servo pulling on the throttle line will work. I found a weedwacker with a really really lite pull on the trigger, and we can add a propeller to it rather easy, I just need to know, do i have the servo connected directly to the metal wire that controls the speed or can i have it hitting the trigger?
