Hi I am building my first plank on frame boat and used wet wood to bend around the shapes but as it dried there are small gaps between some of the planks. Apart from car body filler (to smelly for the boss) what can I get here in the UK to fill in with? Or should I just paint with primer and sand until the slight gaps are full.

Hi Pete . It depends on how big the gaps are i think , if you are ging to prime and paint the hull , anything more than half a millimeter will show , and you will needs lots of primer coats to cover. The down side on this is , is that to much primer can be bad , as it can start re acting , and start to lift.
Personally i use car body filler , your right it does smell a little , but do it outside and keep her in doors sweet , Any how try telling her its a special present for valentines day

there is a product called "plastic wood", also there is a silicon sealant, but why not ise hemp strands from your plumbers merchant and cork the hull like on the real things though milliput is best idea, tough, strong waterproof

If you're only going to need a little, some of the two-part epoxy putties are good and easy to work with, though a bit pricey for bigger jobs.

The cracks are small you can just about get a craft knife in and there is only two or so each side (I think the less said about valentines day the better! it could no it WOULD cost me dearly) wood filler sounds ok i will go into my local DIY and see what there is tomorrow. i have some pics i will see if i can post some.

wood filler is what i use for all my models. it works fine for me, and its pre-mixed. and easy to snad just like the wood itself.

I paid a visit to my local model shop to get the latest boat mag. Whilst I was there I asked about the filler, the nice man at the shop talked about most of the fillers that you kind fellows posted to me, then suggested that I use RED DEVIL ONETIME it’s not cheap but I have tried it and it’s good.
To use a phrase it do’s what it says in the can “no sanding (it’s very smooth) no sagging no shrinking”.
I have only used a small amount on a test piece but it looks promising so far.
Thank you all for your input.
Regards
Pete

Pete, I am using Red Devil Onetime on my model. I picked it up after seeing many on here using dry wall compound for minor irregularities. It does work very well, and sands easily. The fiberglass that came with my model covers it nicely with no problems. I just never thought it would be a recommended product! Your boat is looking good, should be a real show peice when your done.
