I would like to paint the inside of my fiberglass hull just for neatness in appearance sake. Can I paint if before I attach my motor mounts etc, will they adhere to it after painting? My only thought is it will be difficult once all that is mounted to get in there an paint it if I have to do it after.

Hello!

I have good custom to support internal space of the hull in cleanliness.
Oil, fuel, gasoline, greasing - caustic at long influence. It is clear.
Any paint does not serve long.

The strongest decorative covering, that I have reached is a stainer and epoxy resin. Stainer - mix white & black dry powder, paint base.
A few dissolution is good for convenient drawing by a brush.
After cure - the covering is not afraid some acetone, oil, gasoline, soot, synthetic oil and other.

It is important to not forget:
If the hull is executed by polyester also blanket must to be polyester.

Once all to disassemble completely and to put a strong layer of decorative pitch. And forget.

I hope, that it in a theme.
Sergey.

You are unlikely to get motor mounts to stick to any sort of paint. As Sergey says, make sure you fit the mounts with a similar adhesive as the hull - epoxy to epoxy, or polyester to polyester.

It's a good idea to use an etcher as well, although roughening the area does reasonably well,

Yep, make sure you mount your hardware (motor mounts and etc.) in the hull first and then top coat everything. You can rough the surfaces for bonding with a dremel or a die grinder or with 220 grit by hand..

I would use a good epoxy like West System or MAS. You can use Epoxy just fine over cured polyester resin based laminate. It would be the best choice as Epoxy resin has the best secondary bond characteristics and penetrates and encapsulates wood far better than polyester resin. A thickening agent like colliodal silica helps to make the resin easier to handle for bonding thngs to the inside of the hull.

You can get white pigment from West Systems to mix into the epoxy resin to make a great coating. Sherwin Williams also makes a good epoxy coating called Tile Cad. Either way, you'll have to scuff the areas you want to coat with 220 grit before coating.
