Hi Guys
I have a P3/800 and a Geforece 2 pr0 64 meg vid card. Some models run OK at 25-30 but some bog down to 7 fps. What would be a good vid card in the $100-150.00 range? Or is my processor the problem?
thx

Honestly, your video and CPU are both old enough to limit you. If you can swing it, you might look into some of the $499 computer deals that float around from time to time. They aren't screaming fast boxes by today's standard, but will blow the doors off your box. Just look for a decent video chip set / card. Some of the super specials have a really basic video built in to the motherboard (which is part of why they are so cheap) and you will not be happy with the results. You can get a nice card for fairly cheap these days, so even if you get a super special and add your own card, you can certainly get a good set up for less than $600 or so.

Bob,
You can build a nice PC for around $300 since you are in San Jose, CA.
I recently built one just for my new Aerofly Pro Deluxe:
Sempron 2500+ boxed CPU with motherboard $75 from Fry's;
ATI Radeon 9600 with 256 MB $80 from Microcenter;
512MB PC3200 $50 from Fry's;
120GB Hard Drive $40 from Microcenter;
ATX minitower case with power supply $30 from Action Computers;
8X DVD+-RW Drive $40 from OfficeMax;
The total is $315 and the simulation run from 60 to 180 FPS.
Of course there are couple catches:
1) You need to check Fry's ad (there is actually a web site for that)
over the next couple weeks to look for deals;
2) you need to fill up half a dozen rebate forms and keep calling them to
get your rebate money back.
Good luck and happy flying.

^^usually running a special.
IMO, for 'smooth' realistic flight, you would need in the range of 50-60 fps (constant). Right now with the recent release of pci-x you can get some pretty sweet deals on some top of the line 'older' style agp mobos. If you PM me I can reccomend some configurations for you. Are you comfortable with building your own pc?

I get 75 FPS with a ati All in Wonder 9600, 3.0 GHZ P4 and 512 mB RAM and ASUS Mother board. A regular 9600 with do. My frame rate slows to the teens when the cursor highlights my tool bar, so I don't do that.

I'm running it on Vsync. resolution seems excellent. Even highest resolution works well- for demo modes . Can't tell res with full screen. my interface cable was defective so I'm waiting on a new one. 1600x1200 looks really good.
Hope that helps
