Helium,
If you don't run the sim in full screen mode it can become jerky. Select Display Mode During Simulation and choose one of the Full Screen In xxxx modes, the highest your PC/graphics card will manage. I also find that making sure none of the three options at the top are checked Window, Full screen with act. resolution or Vsync helps it to run smoother.
My setup is Athlon 1.33Ghz, Peak Radeon 9550, 256MB 4X and I get fully smooth operation at 85hz.

I suspect its your graphics card - Just try reducing the resolution till the frame rate becomes acceptable.....next thing to do is upgrade your graphics card to something like a Radeon 9800pro which will handle it easily at max resolution.

Did you also check that hardware accelleration is switched on / set to maximum?

If you are using photorealistic scenery, you may want to try turning down the resolution under the "Scenery/panorama resolution" menu.
Another thing that affects frame rate is the resolution of the model (which you can't change). Some model builders go crazy and make them too complex which slows everything down. Try selecting another model and see it the rate improves.

Like was already said, change your resolution to 4080 x 2048, that should help.

Make sure that you dont have AA/AF or vsync enabled. I dont know how video intense that these newer sims are, but ive seen people reccomend 9700pro/9800pros etc. If thats the case, then 1. upgrade to atleast 512 ram (this alone should help substantial)
If you have some extra money left over, try picking up a better card. I dont suggest a 9700/9800 pro because you need 400w p/w and with your specs, i doubt you have one. Instead, take a look at the ati 9600 pro or xt. You can pick up a 9600 for @ $85-110 on ebay (new).

ok, here are something you need to do:
1, make sure you have latest directx installed: www.microsoft.com/directx
2, make sure you agp drivers and mini port drivers are installed, this will depend on your mobo maker, if its VIA, go to www.viaarena.com and download the hyperon 4.1
3, How do your other games run? If you can run games like Call of Duty on your computer, reflex should run fine.
4, If you are going the ebay route, pickup a 9700pro instead of the 9600. They go for the same price and 9700pro has 4 more pixel pipelines and gives about 30-40% better performance then the 9600.

The Radeon 9550 I use is perfectly adequate to get fully smooth operation at 85 FPS in 1280 x 1024 (highest spatial resolution) provided I stick to 16 bit colour. I tried 32 bit colour and I couldn't see any difference other than it was slightly jerky. I run the scenery resolution at 6120 x 2048 with no problems on this el cheapo graphics card.
Oh and my motherboard is so old that it only allows the graphic card to run at 4x speed, although it's capable of 8x.
Conclusion, you don't need the latest AGP to make a perfectly good job of running this sim.

I just put the main simulation res up to 1280 x 1024 x 32 bit colour and the scenery resolution up to the max, 8160 x 3060, guess what it's not jerky at all, it was either my imagination or I messed around with the driver software since I first set it up, but who cares, for a 60 quid (about 100USD) graphic card, I call this a result.

Alk,
The 9600 vs 9700 ati is not an issue of price, tho the 9600 is cheaper. The problem here would be you need atleast a 350w p/s. So with the posters specs, the 9700 is not really worth it because hes not gonna have high enough p/s for the 9700. How woudl the poster even run COD with his specs??? The poster can do everything imaginable, he is still very limited with what he has to work with.

Andi,
I dont know what drivers you are using for your gfx card. Prob radeon? You shoudl try omega drivers, they ROCK for ati cards. Will prob boost your fps even higher. You shoudl be able to run 32bit color tho. If you have AA/AF or vsync on, you shoudl disable them. But definetly try the omega drivers. www.omegacorner.com

Sean,
Thanks for the advice but if it aint broke don't fix it. I always have trouble getting drivers to install properly and my graphics card was no exception. It's probably something to do with using Win 98. I will upgrade to 2k some time soom and I will try the Omega driver then.
Cheers,
Andy.
